Why are there songs vanishing?

My Question or Issue

I noticed this long ago: some artists or songs that used to be available on Spotify, are no longer available. The search engine will not find them, and they disappeared from my playlists. 

I could mention this artist: Jeffrey Lee Pierce. Could you please tell me what happened? There were quite a few of his albums/singles/EP's on Spotify until recently, and now only the songs included in compilations remain.

It's all to do with their licensing agreements with the record labels. Some artists won't want their music on Spotify because they don't get paid a lot.
