My Question or Issue
When I want to search for a song or prompt Siri with a specific command (“hey siri, play Michael Jackson”) she repeatedly says some version of “there was a problem, try again.” I have rebooted my vehicle console, restarted Spotify, uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify, turned my phone off and on, checked to make sure I have the latest software on both the app and my device…just about everything short of a factory reset which I don’t want to do. Nothing has worked, still no luck with CarPlay commands. However it be worth noting if I only say “hey Siri, open Spotify” that works. It’s just having issues with music search.

Hey folks,
Some of you mentioned in this thread that changing the wording from “hey Siri, play song/artist” to “hey Siri, play song/artist on Spotify” does the trick. Those who haven't tried this yet, would you mind checking if it works for you as well?
We'll be on the lookout for your replies.
I am also having this problem
sure thing i have iphone 13 with ios 18.6. i just uninstalled and reinstalled spotify so the version for that is 9.0.68.684
so far i have checked all my settings to make sure siri is enabled, checked settings within Spotify. everything is good on my end, have had the same phone and spotify account a few years and just this past week is when problems arose.
i did notice when i went into ios settings<microphone<there was no Spotify to toggle to allow microphone access which is odd. typically if an app needs microphone access you can find it there
Alright, so I logged in to my account on my family member’s phone and the Siri song request command worked! (Note: Not connected to CarPlay) Still doesn’t work on my phone, though.
I am having the same problem has worked fine in the past all my setting are set up correctly installed and rebooted phone and Spotify app… still not working
Also have this issue since updating to IOS 18. No fix found yet tried everythinv
Same issue here.
I did all the uninstall and reinstall steps. No change. Doesn’t make any difference if I’m using CarPlay or not, Siri doesn’t work with Spotify.
It is very annoying and Spotify must resolve this ASAP.
This is happening to me too. Tried everything listed on the forum and nothing worked 😞
Moderator - is Spotify doing something about this? Reinstalling, wiping etc are just delay tactics. Fix the problem!
Same thing has been happening to me as well. Hoping for a fix soon!
At least I know now that it's not just me.
Hey everyone, I was having the same problem. I discovered this morning that if you specify, “Hey Siri, on Spotify play (song/artist/album)” it seems to opens it no issues.
Hope this helps everyone.
Hey Chris. Your solution seems to be working for me. Have the same trouble as everyone else here but your solution is working so far. Thanks!
Specifying “on spotify” works for me too. So I guess Apple is adding steps if you want to use a third party app?
I also found that saying “play ….. song by …… on Spotify” works, so seems like you have to specify on Spotify at the end. Which seems kind of dumb because you’re already in Spotify to begin with.
I'm having the same issue too. I think it’s related to the most recent iOS upgrade because that’s around the same time it stopped working for me.
same for me for both iphone home screen or when connected to caplay and going to "ask siri" within spotify. now must request what you want to listen to and add "on spotify" after said request for it to work.
The request with the added “on Spotify” did work for me too, with only a specified song or artist. I tested “Siri, play a 90s hip hop mix on Spotify ” which has worked in the past but that type of request gets no response anymore. So, a partial victory with the added words, but yes still annoying as Spotify is already open. Would be nice for a fix with the same capabilities as before, but as I’m on a 2 day road trip currently I’ll take what I can get right now lol
