Just upgraded to Premium and my iPhone app keeps crashing, the minute I log in it's gone. Tried deleting, reinstalling, deleting all my playlists- nothing works!
Very frustrated and wondering what I can do. Recently upgraded to Premium and now even more frustrated as it's worse than when I was using the free version.
COme on spotify!
Solved! Go to Solution.
I have 5 or 6gb free on my phone. I never intended to store much music on there with having Spotify. I'm running the latest version of iOS.
Can you help. I've tried Spotify again today, and as every time I run this, I'm lucky if I manage 5 minutes before it crashes and shuts down.
Those of you who are still experiencing crashes, are you power users of some sort, i.e. a lot of playlists, very big playlists, and/or a lot of friends? And when did your problems start, with a specific release or just randomly one day? Does the app get slow first and then crash, or does it just crash suddenly? Basically any information you can give might be useful.
I'm definitely not a power user of any kind. I only have 5 playlists with about 350 songs in totalt (150 songs in the biggest playlist). Like I said before I've tried to divide the playlists into many smaller playlists but it didn't help.
Neither do I have that many friends connected to it either (around 150 I'd guess).
I've logged in with other peoples accounts with way more playlists and friends than me and it works for them.
What happends when it crashes for me is that when I login I can see my playlists in about 3 seconds before it just shuts down and takes me back to the iPhone desktop (or whatever you call it). Just before it crashes I can see that the amount of songs in the playlists are not the acctual amount (ie. according to the app there are only 45 songs in the playlist with 150). So it feels like the app crashes when it tries to load the songs into the playlists.
In those 3 seconds I can (if I'm fast) even click on a playlist, select a song and start playing it (the sound never starts before the app crashes).
I don't know what more I can say about the problem since it all happens so fast. I'm not going to delete my playlists and try to load the app since I'm afraid that I won't get them back. But I think I recall someone else in this thread already tried that without success anyway.
I know that my account has worked on an iPhone 3 about a year ago but I've never tried it on an iPhone 4 or 4s before until now.
Hope this helps somewhat.
Like I think I've said before in this thread, it could be an idea for you on Spotify to get one of us a new account without any playlists on just to see if it's the playlists or if it has something to do with the actual account. If that works the try importing our old playlists into that account and see if it still works... I'd be happy to help out as a guinea pig if it means that you'll be able to solve the problem faster.
Thanks, nissephex. And yup, that certainly sounds like a playlist issue. I don't have access to the playlist-fixing-tool, so I'm gonna go ahead and call on David the playlist ninja again. David?
Bloody hell! I think I just solved it on my iPhone...
In the 3 seconds I had before the app crashed I managed to (quick as hell) click my way to settings and toggle the "Offline Mode". The app crashed directly after but the next time I started the app I was in "Offline Mode" and the app didn't crash. Then I just went into the the settings tab and untoggled the "Offline Mode" and everything worked like a charm. The music has now been playing for about 5 minutes without any crashes...
I even tried to restart the whole phone and it still works!
Does this work for anyone else out there or was I just really lucky?
I don't have any playlists on my iphone. They were deleted.
I'm running next to no other appps in the backgrouns. I run the latest iOS.
I've tried running in low bandwidth modes etc.
I've tried deleting and clean installing. I've tried rebooting etc.
I really am at a total loss with this....
Oh, and I have most of my phone memory spare.
Sometimes, I get stuttering before it closes down, but mostly, it closes without any hint of any issue beforehand.
Yes I have a lot of playlists and some are very long but no I don't have a lot of friends.
I can't remember exactly when it started crashing and/or if it was a specific release but I think it was in December. As I said before it is totally inconsistent - sometimes it will crash during the first song and sometimes it will be fine for say 15-20 minutes.
The app is always very slow to load and freezes whilst it loads and then it usually works fine until it very suddenly crashes.
Thanks for your help.
@paperplanes.
You'll be lucky if anyone on staff here gives a hoot. At best, you'll just get the standard questions, and they seem incapable of dealing with this issue properly.
If this isn't sorted soon, this is my last month of subscribing. I've been a Spotify subscriber fince almost the beginning, but my patience is worn seriously thin.
The same thing happens to me all the time, is there a fix planned?
....just the usual sound of silence from Spotify staff. It's like a hit and run; they take your money, then don't care about the wreckage they leave behind.
I would play the 'Sound of Silence', but I doubt I'd get to the end of the track before Spotify crashed.
I'm seriously thinking of writing a letter to UK Trading Standards about this. As they sell this product in the UK, they would be foolish if they thought that they couldn't be touched.
I've a rake of URL's complaining of this issue.
About the crashes in Ios 5.
I haven't been able to make it through an entire album these last months since I updated my Iphone. I have reinstalled the app probably ten to fifteen times. I have updated it and reinstalled it again. Still not a day without at least two or three crashes. It's like having one of these portable CD-players 'cause it often starts with the songs sort of stopping and starting a few times until it just quits.
The reason that I got myself a premium account was the possibility of having it with me always, so I can't say I'm pleased with that perticual service.
But Spotify is still great and well worth the monthly fee so keep it up but, you know, you should really fix this.
I have a iPhone 3GS and suffering from repeates crashes. Following the crashes I can not open Spotify again and it crashes.
This is a worsening issue. It is happening more frequently and has started to crash during playback. The frequency of crashing has increased significantly over the past month.
Like others in this forum, I believe this should not be happening when it is a paid service. Especially one where I pay £10 per month.
Please sort this issue out Spotify, I do not want to unsubsribe but If I cannot use the software, I will leave.
I'm having the same problem, plus the fact that whenever I plug-in my headphone cable, I cannot manouver the user-interface anymore, it starts to act as a madman. The only way I can use this is by unplugging it, choosing the songs I want to hear and then plug in the cable again.
I'm paying $10,00 a moth for this, thats quite hard!
Regards, Robert
