ipod touch and spotify unlimited question

I want to buy an ipod touch and use spotify unlimited on it  via wireless connection to my virgin box.

Can I do this without having to upgrade to premium?

Roobarb - You can't, no. In order to use Spotify on a mobile device, you'll need a Premium subscription.

I'd like to buy an ipod touch as a gift but plan on buying a 2nd gen ipod as well as a yearly subscription to spotify.  

Can i run this version of spotify on the ios 4.2.1 that the iPod Touch has?

I've been looking into this and noticed that a lot of folks have been having trouble.

iOS 4 devices can run the "Spotify for iOS4" application. However, this won't have as many features as the current version - things like Radio, for example.
