Spotify on Roku remote: oversensitive up and down arrows

Solved!

Spotify on Roku remote: oversensitive up and down arrows

On the Roku, ONLY in the Spotify app, the remote up and down arrows often skip up or down... and with my Harmony 880 Universal Remote, Up arrow always jumps up exactly 3 items in any list (songs/playlists/etc.) and Down arrow always jumps DOWN exactly 3 songs/playlists/etc. Both the Roku remote and my Harmony 880 Universal remote work perfectly in every other Roku app. It's only the Spotify app exhibiting this probem.

Mine fixed itself! I had to unplug everything when I was rearranging furniture... Plugged it all back in, turned it on and the over sensitivity issue was gone! From the her posts I'm not convinced that this is a permanent resolution but next time I will do the 'turn it off and on again' trick.

Sorry, but this is only a temporary fix. It lasts for a few weeks and
then the problem comes back just like before.

I still have the problem.  If it is not fixed, I am going to cancel Spotify.

I have spotify premium.

I now tried to setup spotify on my roku and cannot enter login credentials because one press on any of the arrow keys on the remote jumps two characters at a time instead of one.

I keep having the same problem on and off. This is the only app I've ever had issues using in 2-3 years of having a roku. I can't believe this problem has been occurring for years!

Same problem. This seems to have been going on for several years now.  I looks like Spotify doesn't care or maybe Roku is at fault too.

WOW, just loaded up the Spotify app on my Roku and am having the same issue that has been documented here for YEARS!  Spotify on Roku sucks.  This alone will keep me from being a paying member.

Upgraded my Spotify to a premium account today specifically to be able to listen to spotify on my NowTV box and having the exact same problem. Felt such a nobber standing there for almost 10 minutes trying to type in the f*cking RAMONES that I eventually give up.

Can't believe this problem has been going on for years and nobody has even attempted to rectify it. No problem whatsoever with other apps like YouTube so why the problem here?

F*cking sh*t is all I can say and will obvioulsy be cancelling my premium account before the free trial expires.

Had this problem once a long time ago but now it is BACK WITH A VENGEANCE.

Just when we got Spotify back on Roku to begin with.

Can't win!

Why has this been a problem FOR YEARS? New to Spotify on Roku, and it is sooooooo frustrating...no other apps have this problem. Garbage.

If you actually unplug the box and switch it off for a minute or so and then switch it back on again, you're asked to re-enter all your log in and passwords and then it actually works normally.

Mine's been ok for a about 6 weeks now but apparently at some point it will revert back to being really **bleep**ing annoying again, in which case I'm assuming you have to redo the whole procedure again.

Same problem here with a Harmony remote. Skips exactly 3 times on all Spotify. Now I cannot even login because I reloaded the app...trash.

Have you got a solution yet I have same problem

Same exact problem here. Even using the Roku android app as a remote, it registers multiple clicks.

I have a NowTV box and the good old switch it off and on again works.

Unplug it completely and then switch it on again (might ask you to enter passwords again) but it then it should work. Repeat procedure if it happens again in the future.

Un plug and plug worked ty

Having the same problem, will try an unplug for a bit longer and see if I can be as forunate as some in getting it to work albeit for a few weeks.

I think I found a fix

Set "Device Command Repeats" to 1 using this guide

https://support.myharmony.com/en-us/adjusting-a-devices-command-repeats

Weirdly, my MyHarmony app (at least on my Mac) doesn't give me that option for the Roku. 😞

I have a Harmony 890 and although I don't use Spotify (everybody tells me I should), I use Pandora, and I have the same problem on a Roku 4.  I have reduced my "Repeats" down to Zero and it still skips one up or one down (never sideways).  I had it on One repeat for a year or so and it worked fine, but then I had to reduce to Zero repeats, and now it's doing it again.  I can't go any lower than Zero repeats, so what the heck am I supposed to do?

Found a better solution for the Roku than unplugging it which requires log-in credentials when you plug it back in.  That's a pain.  This isn't a "fix" exactly since Spotify will start doing it again after a while (totally unnacceptable BTW Spotify - not  a way to run a business - you really should fix it - makes you guys look really unprofessional and like you don't care about your customers - OK rant over).

So here's the "temporary" solution: you do a restart within Roku settings by navigating to the "System Restart" option:

Settings - System - System Restart.

This is way faster and easier than unplugging and inputting login info!

There's also a way to reboot if Roku has totally frozen up on you.  This is a remote control function:

1) Press Home button 5x

2) Press Arrow Up button 1x

3) Press Rewind button 2x

4) Press Fast Forward button 2x

Hope this helps everyone 🙂
