Can someone explain why Spotify just attempted to connect me to Facebook without my permission? I clicked an open.spotify.com link on the Spotify community (this thread, to be exact) and then Facebook popped up, asking me to "listen to music".
Obviously, clicking that blue button would connect my Spotify account to Facebook and everything would be screwed up and I would spam Facebook with everything I listen to which is the reason I hate Spotify's former Facebook requirement so much.
Screenshow below:
I've tried to reproduce this, but no luck.
Does this happen every time? Tried a different browser?
This happens on both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, while logged into Facebook. When logged out of Facebook, nothing happens.
The Facebook account is not connected to any Spotify account, and my Spotify account isn't connected to Facebook. This is because I am not interested in spamming every song I play, even though you want me to advertise your services so much.
Could you see if Spotify shows up in this list?
https://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=applications
I have blocked all apps. The page says: "You have not authorized any apps to interact with your Facebook account." I use Facebook to keep in touch with people, not to spam every friend with songs.
The point is that I do NOT want to connect Spotify to Facebook but all open.spotify.com links are insisting that I do this. That Facebook pop-up appears every time I click an open.spotify.com link while logged in to Facebook.
Per, try the following...
What happens now?
I have experienced this same problem once before when, during an upgrade, my Spotify desktop client lost its connection to Facebook (I allow Spotify to connect to Facebook, but I don't use it for authentication). All the time that my client was not connected to Facebook, I experienced the problem described here, and was very worried that if I continued I would get a duplicate account created. The problem disappeared when I connected to Facebook again from the client preferences. That's an ok solution for me, but users that don't want to connect to Facebook at all aren't going to be too happy if this is confirmed as the source of the problem.
Steve, I've tried everything, but I can't reproduce.
Stupify, I want to escalate this, but I know the first things they'll ask me will be along these lines:
- Did you clear your browser's cache, cookies, history, etc.?
- What version is your desktop Spotify client?
- What browser(s) did you try this on and what version are they?
I'm having the same problam and have tried all of the fixes listed on this page.
Spotify is running on Windows 7, version 0.8.4.124.ga3559d86
Tried on two browsers. Google Chrome 21.0.1180.83 and Internet Explorer 9.0.8112.16421
Internet Explorer had no cookies at all because I don't use it, I only used it for testing: logged into Facebook and opened a Spotify link. Then it wanted me to connect to Facebook.
For Google Chrome I had cleared cookies for Spotify.com. I am now logged into the Spotify website but all song sharing links still insist that I connect to Facebook.
EDIT:
This was no longer happening. However, I deleted all cookies and cache from Internet Explorer, then logged into Facebook and opened a Spotify link. Then the Facebook prompt appeared again.
