Australian Spotify Music Restrictions

Hi.

I'm a premium paying customer from Australia. Over the past 2+ months there has been an increased inactivity in new music being added to the Australian spotify. Most of the time the music doesn't even exist. I'm talking mainstream music. Just one example of this is Taylor Swift's new Red album is not available to us, and yet the physical copy has been in stores for at least a couple of weeks.

I'd love to know what the problem is, because I would expect if I'm paying $12 odd dollars a month to listen to the latest music at my convenience, that the latest music is available. I'm seriously displeased and will be finding an alternative if this isn't resolved shortly.

Unfortunately it is rarely Spotify to blame for delays in new music being added. Spotify upload all new music as soon as they receive it from the music labels. Don't worry, we don't have Taylor Swift's new album here in the UK either on Spotify 😉 I never realised she was so popular, seen several requests this week!

Back to the topic, music companies commonly withhold sending their new music to streaming services in the hope that you will still go out and buy the album whilst you wait as they make much more money from actual album sales than streaming revenue.

Taylor Swift's Red is not available anywhere at all. It's not a regional restriction, it's just not on any streaming service.

I've also heard about Deadmau5's new album being restricted for a while, although I think this was US only, because I've been listening to it since it was released.

There's many artists and labels who do not like the music streaming business. Nobody can force them to make their music available on Spotify, they just don't like it. They prefer selling their music.
