Can't Upgrade to Premium

Solved!

Can't Upgrade to Premium

Are you have any issues with your launch in Australia?

I have been trying for days to upgrade to Premium, but it won't accept either my credit card or my Pay Pal (see screen shots) when both work fine on other services. I have also tried across three browsers: Firefox, Chrome and Safari. Still no dice.

I'm loving Spotify, but the ads are killing me. I'm a willing customer wanting to pay the full subscription fee, but it's back to iTunes if this can't be sorted sharpish.

This is the mesage I get when trying to pay via credit card (I assure you this is not user error and have made multiple online purchases while receiving this error message continually):

And this is the message I get when I try from PayPal. My Pay Pal account is Australian, My Spotify account is Australian and it is even telling me I'm in Australia - so even the error message is incorrect:

So I tried the customer service link and it directed me here... my last stop before giving up and heading back to iTunes

Payment by card

There are some main requirements that your card must fulfil in order to use it to subscribe to Spotify Premium or Spotify Unlimited.

  1. Ensure that your card has not expired. If you have received a new card, update your credit card details on your Subscription page
  2. The country set in your Spotify account profile must match the country where your card is registered. If you intend to use a payment method in another country, you can make this selection on your Subscription page (We can only accept payment from our launch countries).
  3. Your card should be enabled for e-commerce transactions (Verified by Visa/Mastercard SecureCode).
  4. Your card must also be open to be used for foreign purchases.

After verifying these with your bank, ensure you have enough funds in your account and give it another try from your Subscription page.

Payment by PayPal

Please contact PayPal in order to get more information on how to verify your account in your country.

If you have fulfilled the above criteria, and your payment has still failed, your card issuer (bank or credit card company) should be able to provide more information.

Information from Spotify.

For any Australians reading this thread with the same problem, hit up @Spotifyoz on Twitter and they will reset your account to be Australian.

Even though it was telling me my account was Australian (see screenshot above), the system has me down as a US account in the back end... therefore not accepting payments from Australian accounts.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for this.

It's a new card and may not be enabled for international purchases. I'll check with my bank tomorrow.

Doesn't explain the PayPal though as my account fits the criterieria fine...

Thanks for your help anyway 🙂

At least in Nordea Finland user can enable International payments from Nordea's Internet bank.

But if you unsure how to do, just contact to your bank and discuss about this.

I think that you can subscribe for Spotify in no time after enabling Internet payments.

Glad to hear you enjoy your Spotify and want a Premium subscription. I use Premium 5 December 2012 for 2 years.

I just want to point out, to other people having this problem, that your answer was very good and I really want to recommend other people to check out the different steps!

I've been sitting here trying to upgrade my spotify for about an hour but just getting the same kind of messages as mjkendall and after checking out the community, finding this thread my problem was solved in like 1 min.

THANKS

(mjkendall: hope your bank gives you good news!)

Hey, glad to hear I'm helped you.

Enjoy your Spotify. And have a nice summer!

Hey Guys,

Spotify has accepted my credit card details (My Location = Australia), i've gone onto the 30 day trial and next payment will be taken off my card in October. However i still fail to upgrade Spotify to Premium.

Any suggestions?
