Compromised Accounts

Hello,

I spoke to a CS agent in Spotify chat called Daniel M and he advised I post here about this problem.

I found that my Spotify account had been compromised this morning so decided to do some research, simply by googling my e-mail I found a list containing:

The Username

Password

Account Type

For my account and around 2000 others which had been uploaded to a website 2 days ago. I am not going to post this information for obvious reasons. I am unsure of how to proceed from here however, I feel that Spotify support should have access to this data so that they can investigate further, find out how this happened and contact the people who are on the list so that they can change their passwords (And passwords of other accounts).

Daniel assured me that my account had not been accessed by anyone else as of yet.

How should I proceed?

Thanks!

Hey @Gezza2,

I feel for you. It's really crazy to think that there are people and services online which makes use of personal details to go about their evil deeds. It's a scary world out there after all.

What I do know is that these compromised credentials online may have possibly came from a past leak on another service. Now, if you are using the same credentials for multiple services, I'd strongly recommend you change your passwords to something that cannot be easily guessed.

Did a little research on this too. I am confident that Spotify regularly look for leaks at other services and match account names with their database. With this in their arsenal, users are advised accordingly.

Going forward, there are actions you can take in protecting your Spotify account. Check them out! Extremely helpful stuff 🙂

Always remember that you can always reach out to the Spotify support team by going here or emailing them directly.

Hopefully this helped. (If it did, marking this as a "solution" will make it easier for others with the same issues to find).

Keep rocking! Regards.

Hey @Gezza2,

Thanks for reaching out via the Community!

We'd strongly recommend following the advice offered by @user-removed for this. The link to the steps showing you how to protect your account are really important to look at here.

Make sure you go to your account overview and click 'Sign Out Everywhere' prior to changing your password. These two steps should resolve this for you.

If you need anything else, be sure to reach out to the team via Chat again with a link to the website you mentioned and the details of your account. We'd suggest doing it there as we can't offer private support here through our Community; these are public help boards.

We hope this clears things up!
