Disable Spotify from sending emails out when you add songs to your playlist[s]

Disable Spotify from sending emails out when you add songs to your playlist[s]

Greetings,

How can I stop the Spotify application from sending emails to friends whenever I add a track to one of my playlists?

I realize the sharing aspect of Spotify is a major reason for it, but I don't want an email to be sent out to all my friends everytime I add a track.

Can I change some setting somewhere to prevent this?

No. Your friends have to stop receiving those emails, which can be done on the Edit Profile section on the Spotify website.

The only way to stop sending emails is to disconnect from Facebook.

Thanks for the clarification on that.

I assume that after disconnecting my Spotify account from FB I will have to create a new login name/password?

What happens with the premium subscription at that point?  Will I have to re-subscribe?

If you signed up through a Facebook account, you can't disconnect.

That seems to be the case here, so you have to make a new account through the sign up page, this time without going through Facebook (choose 'create an account using your email address'). That means you have to start over without your playlists and restart your subscription on the new account.

If you actually want to share music with your friends, there's no point in doing this. Just tell your friends to go to the profile section on the site and disable the email notifications. If you don't want to share anything ever, it's a good idea to make the new account as instructed above.

I LOVE my Spotify subscription... but this whole issue of automatically sending emails about my activity (without any way for me to disable them) might be enough to make me go back to MOG or Rdio.  Understandably, my friends blame me for spamming them & I have to spend the tech support time teaching my friends how to change their Spotify settings.  Looks like I'm the stupid one... Spotify is criminalizing me for using/purchasing their product.  Not sure how much longer I'll stick around.

In any case, if others missed this like I did... Here's the only future hope I've found (as of December 28, 2012):  If sharing playslists is not important to you, you can disable auto-publishing new playlists... however I have no way to verify if this works.  To do it open the Spotify app > Settings/Preferences > Profile > Publish >  and uncheck "Automatically publish new playlists".  Screenshot: http://cl.ly/image/0O2L001a110Y

Again, not a proper solution... maybe one day.
