Family Subscription

Family Subscription

I currently have three separate accounts.  One for myself (mother), one for my son and daughter.  I want to upgrade to the family subscription, since it is cheaper.  How do I do that?  Do I need to cancel my current subscriptions, and then go to the family site and re-register?

Nope, as long as you are logged into you account whilst do the upgrade everything should be smooth. Your content is always preserved on your account no matter what plan you are on or move too. 🙂

If you currently pay by monthly recurring payment, you can upgrade right now by going to spotify.com/family and following the links to upgrade. Once you have done that you can send invites to the kids accounts to upgrade them.

Be aware to accept an invite, their accounts have to be on Spotify Free so if either of them have premium they need to cancel and wait for the account to drop to Spotify Free before they can accept the invite.

OK.  But, I don't need to cancel my premium account?

The kids are on the premium accts, as well.

Thanks!

No you don't need to cancel, the admin account for the family plan can upgrade directly and the system will convert any remaining premium days into time on the new plan which will be used up before your first bill on the new plan. However, the kids will need to cancel their accounts and wait until they run out of paid premium time before they can accept an invite to your family plan.

So if I follow the steps to upgrade to family, re-enter my credit card information, I won't lose any of my playlists or information that I have from the last 4 years? And by re-entering my credit card information, I'm concerned about being charged twice, once for the $9.99 and again at the $14.99 (new) rate.

Also, Does the person I add need to have an existing spotify free account? Currently she doesn't have anything spotify, so I'm wondering if she needs to get set up with the free service before I send her an invite?

It is definitely mentioned on the support page (at the bottom) that existing premium time will be converted and then after that your subscription price each month will be adjusted to the new rate, you definitely shouldn't be billed twice.

If the invitee doesn't currently have a Spotify account, they can set one up during the registration process when they receive the invite email.

Okay great!

Any by re-entering my credit card information, I'm not running a risk of losing any of my playlists or anything, am I?
