Holiday Deal Clarification

Solved!

Holiday Deal Clarification

Hey! New user here. 🙂

I'm currently on vacation, away from home w/ only cash and 1 credit card to help me stay w/n my budget. Unfortunately, I bought the wrong card and ended up going over the limit  w/ just 2 purchases... so no more cards for me until I get back home next week.

Here's my dilemma: I want to avail the holiday deal but is it possible to avail it through the spotify app and paying for it using the stored card in my iTunes account? I did some reading and it wasn't specified if I could just upgrade to premium and the deal would automatically be applied.

The holiday deal is only available if you sign up for it using the page on the Spotify website.

If you subscribe through the Spotify app and use iTunes to pay, the price will be $12.99 a month because Apple takes a huge cut of the transaction.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Enjoy your vacation! 😃

Yes you can change the payment card from the account page:

Hi, I have a similar problem, but then with a gift card I got for Christmas. I wanted to make use of the Holiday deal because I am going to travel in February. I told my parents about the offer and got a gift card for Christmas. I clicked on 'upgrade' in Premium, was directed to the upgrade page, filled in my gift card information and was dissapointed to see that I have premium until 30 January instead of the promised 30 March. Now I have 'waisted' my gift card because I am at home the whole month of January and I am not exactly in need of a Premium account right now, as I have my laptop. Thereby I do not qualify to make use of the offer anymore according to Spotify. I have mailed the customer service already and hope they have a solution, because I find this customer unfriendly. My parents paid the full offer price of 10 Euros after all.

Hopefully they can help us!

EDIT: sorry, I misread your question. But I think it is not possible, regarding my experience..

It doesn't say anywhere that you can't use a giftcard, but I did some testing and it looks like when you click the giftcard option it redirects to the http://spotify.com/redeem page which does not support the offer.

I have passed along feedback to the payments team suggesting they make it more clear what payment methods are accepted for the offer.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

@Karlijn: I think it's both a blessing and a curse that we don't have Spotify gift cards in my country (Philippines) yet. If we did, I would've ran to the nearest store and bought myself one w/o reading the fine print. 😕

Good luck with your issue. 🙂

@Matt: Thank you for your reply. If that's the case, the I guess I'll have to borrow my sister's card. Another question, is it possible to change cards in the future-- say, in a week's time? After the 3-month promo, I am willing to continue my subscription for full price but I don't want my sister's card be charged for that.

@Olives: I actually read the information  (I am a law student after all so we do that kind of things 😉 ) on the back and on the site but it did not say anything about it. Good luck too and have a nice trip.

@Matt: Thank you. I hope they will do something about it because this feels kind of misleading. I did not notice that I went to the redeem page and even if I did, I would not have thought about it being impossible. How could you possibly know such a thing when it is not mentioned anywhere? Thereby, why is it that you apparently cannot use a gift card to make use of such an offer anyway? It is not like the buyer of the gift card doesn't pay the full price of it. I find it both strange and customer unfriendly. We'll see what the customer service has to say. Anyway, thanks again for your effort.

Wow, I just got a response from the Spotify customer service with a solution for my problem. Speaking about fast help. Seems like Spotify does care about her customers after all. Thank you for the service! It does not hurt to make the information about gift cards and similar more clear though ;).
