Logged out offline: Wont allow me to log back in

I Updated my Spotify an hour ago and went to log back in. I typed in all the right account info, but when I clicked login it says, " Please go online to connect to spotify". I dont know what that means and how i fix this. I keep typing in my info and clicking login, but the problem persists. Is there any way I can fix this without having to reinstall the app? I dont want to lose my downloaded playlists. Please help.
