Spotify keeps connecting to a device that is not mine

How can I remove the device that is not mine from my laptop (Windows) so my account doesn't connect through Spotify connect anymore?

Hey,
Welcome to Spotify Community and thanks for reaching out here!
If you don't recognize a device on your Spotify Connect, you can also Sign Out Everywhere on your account page, and for extra safety reset your password.

You can find more information about the Spotify Connect feature here:

Stay awesome!

If you have further questions or if you need anything else, let me know! I'd love to help!

Regards,

I found this thread because music randomly started playing on my speakers. I found out my friend, who had previously used spotify connect at my house, accidentally picked my device. You're saying there's no way for me to "remove" her (or anyone else) from being able to do this? That seems like a huge oversight.

Hey @B0000,

Thanks for joining the thread!
Are you and your friend using a shared network or are you maybe on the same Wi-Fi?
Any devices that are no longer on the same network should not be able to communicate to each other via Connect. This includes your friend's mobile device.

Hope this helps! We're here for you should any further questions arise ‌‌🙂

Hi @Vasil,

She was on my wifi last week, when she was staying at my house, and used Spotify Connect. But now she is ~100 miles away, so definitely not on my wifi anymore. But my device still shows up in her Spotify app. I've attached a screenshot she sent me. "Living Room Receiver" is my receiver (also you can see she's not connected to any wifi at all). She accidentally tapped it, which caused her music to start playing at my house.

According to this article, this behavior seems to be expected (e.g. "This lets the app see devices that currently aren’t on your WiFi network."). So once you've made the initial connection over WiFi, you can then reconnect later without needing to be on WiFi. I can see how this makes sense in general, e.g. to avoid interrupting the stream if your device happens to disconnect from WiFi, but I don't want friends to be able to continue to stream to my device after they have left my house, and it seems there's no way to prevent that.

Hey again @B0000,

Thank you for the detailed description!

Any unused devices should disappear from the list after a while but for the time being you can't revoke the access manually.
Keep in mind that you can still ask your friend to remove the device from the 3 dots next to it (as also seen on the screenshot).

This should fix your issue, albeit in a roundabout way.

We're here for you should any further questions come to mind 🙂
Cheers!

I’m having the same issue. I have removed the other device and reset my password and somehow it keeps logging into my account and playing songs. This other device is 500 miles away from me not on the same network

Hey @Craigb28,

Thanks for your reply here and for the info shared,

In this case, we'd suggest making sure you Log in to your account page, scroll down, and select SIGN OUT EVERYWHERE. This way you’ll sign out from every device on which your account is open. We also suggest following the steps in this article to secure your account.

We recommend checking for anything suspicious on your Account Overview page and removing all apps connected to your account. You can easily reconnect the apps that you use whenever you want. If you notice anything suspicious, you can remove it with the REMOVE ACCESS button.

Lastly, if your account is linked to an external service (like Facebook, Google or Apple), we'd suggest changing the password there as well.

Keep us in the loop!
