Hi,
Noticed a couple of days ago I was no longer able to buy credits to buy MP3's."(At this moment it's not possible to buy downloads from Spotify, click here for more information)"
The link provided only said: "At this moment we don't offer an option to buy new downloads on spotify however you can still use download credits you already have".
-> When will Spotify again allow us to buy download credits?
PS. really bad timing to stop this before X-mas
Solved! Go to Solution.
But where is the answer WHY we can't buy music any more? What reason do they have? Lazyness or lack of expertise?

Or cost which could be the obvious one...
If they wheren't making any money from it, then why pay to keep it maintained.

I'm going to start a petition tomorrow calling for Spotify to bring back the downloads. It's not fair on artists and more importantly consumers clearly want it back.
Feel free to add support to this thread about the issue over on our Ideas Exchange.
I have to say I am extremely disappointed that Spotify has removed the purchase and download option since Spotify is the main place I listen to music, make playlists etc and has been for many years now. Downloads were great back in the old days, since I use music for so many other things than just "listening". For instance for adding to audio tracks of videos or for uploading to my MP3 player, for editing in a audio editing program to make ringtones for my phone and so on and so on. Guess I'll have to buy my music elsewhere :(.
Hi all. I was extremley annoyed to find that spotify has done this and apparently it's only in the UK (don't quote me on that as it's not 100% official but that's what I have read). I immediately emailed spotify customer services and expressed my dissapointment calmly, the response I got was as follows...
''The download purchase feature has been dropped for the foreseeable future.
We have taken this bold step as a way to focus our skills and really deliver a new way to enjoy music, music discovery and music sharing.
I am sorry that this move has come as a disappointment to you. I hope though that the major improvements and functionality that are in the pipe line though more than make up for this change.
All the best and wishing you many hours of musical bliss. Thank you for your support and being part of the Spotify journey. It is greatly appreciated!

A very poor response. No explanation really. How can taking a service away from a product you have paid the privilage for be an improvement? And how it helps Spotify 'focus it's skills' I'll never know. It's a bit of a copout, there has been no real communication as to the real reason's why. Like many of you I am not a huge fan of iTunes. I'm a budding DJ and spotify was a source I could rely on, I loved it!!! My thoughts are now to use YouTube to listen and find tracks, and then use iTunes or Amazon to download them. Or just go free on Spotify and use iTunes.
What I don't understand is surely Spotify will loose £££MILLIONS by cancelling this service... just don't get it.
Is Spotify the new LimeWire?? Colours are on point...
@Diggidy1728 - Its not just the UK, the download store has been removed in all regions.
Unfortunately, from discussion about it I don't think the downloads store was ever a big feature for Spotify, licensing the content to sell probably cost more than the money they made from it!

I've been able to buy more download credits (similar to itunes gift cards) till september, but now the option is unavailable. I guess that it's more convenient to get total control of the media rather than unleashing it to users. Also it guarantees that market won't oversaturate with mp3's, after all how many times one person will buy same song/how long will you listen a really awesome track? or his/her family/friends etc. I doubt that mp3 sales have been big, but it must have been something. I alone have spent hundreds of euros just for downloads and not a single dime on other services. As long as someone somewhere still sells mp3's, it's all out of spotify incomes.
I'm a dj, but I'm also not into streaming everything everywhere because constant web connection isn't always available. It also consumes battery very quickly. I tried premium with downloads on my phone once, but after second time the music just stopped playing I knew it won't ever work as flawlessly as mp3. It would take nonstop connection without lag and fast as sh*t to make this kind of services perfect. We aren't just there yet.
I am new to Spotify and also to Windows. Everytime I subscribe for a service I also take the time to research so I do not get dissapointed. I have decided to give Spotify a try after severa months of using it in the daily basis, I thought this is a marvelous idea., specilaly for people like me, if this could have existed 10 years ago, how differet my life would have been....Imagine ...and think old school, back inthe days, going after underground ElektronischeMuzik... Almost 10 years ago, I was Djing at art openings around NYC and only worked with certain genre that was very limited demand and wasn't commecialy available in most stores around the States.. . You won't find it on Virgin Stores (now closed) and there was only a store that would bring a few cd's and vinyls which would basically sold out in minutes, hours... they arrive. this store would just be able to have 10 copies to sale, and not every release like in Europe..
It was at times painful to love that music...
I still have a rough 500 cd collection that follows me from East to West, North to South....and I have downloaded them into my laptop and regularly play them around. using a free downloaded version of Virtual Dj.
Imagine now my surprise and the smile on my face when I started using Spotify and eventually discover that it was a matter to browse and click save for listeneing later. I wanted at the tips of my fingers. I couldn't tell you how emotive for me was to experience this.
I decided to put my credit card two weeks ago, when I read I could download ilimited tracks as a Premium subscriber. Well, it has been 2 weeks trying and didn't work as promised by Spotify. Yes, I read it 2 weeks ago, that i COULD download, but acgtually just leart, It can't be done anymore.
CaIs that the way Spotify cares about customers?
They have not even reply my email requesting support....see, floks: for a person like me, to be able to spend $10 on Spotify, also I need to be able to separate free time, maybe work less, or cut time from social and family lfe, to simply USE the service. It is not the money alone, see?
If anyone can give me advise about how to get the most of Spotify, even if I had to make changes, I would love to hear from you.
This is the time when if another provider of similar sevice comes to offer me a solution to my problem, i would definitely go with them.
You get one chance Spotify, don't lie to me again.
