Unable to buy Spotify Premium

Hey,

I'm trying to buy into the Spotify Premium, with the 30-day free trial to start.  Whenever I go to plug in my payment information (specifically trying to pay using Visa), I'm told "Declined, please check or change payment details."

I'm trying to buy from the UK, but first created my account in the US.  Since then, I've changed my country within Spotify, so I don't think that this is the issue.  I've also tried to pay using two different Visa cards, both returning the same message.  Any help?

Spotify have a handy FAQ on this error which is worth a read 😉

Your payment card and your Spotify account must be registered in the same country, are your Visa cards registered in the UK or US?

Ah, rough. I'm in the UK for another month or so, but my cards are registered in the US.  Seems like it's only possible to change my country back if I have an American IP address, so I'm effectively locked out of the service until I return?

We are very fortunate that here in the UK you can buy Spotify gift cards in several leading retailers using whichever payment method you feel like using! Can even use good old fashioned paper money to buy them 😛

You can certainly but your Spotify subscription at a store in the UK, but you don't need to. You can change your account country to US instead, if that's more convenient for you:

1. Head to your Subscription page.

2. Click "Add a payment method"

3. Click "change your country" in the text.

4. Select US.

5. Add your US payment method.
