I intentionally closed my old free account so I could create a new account with the username I wanted and subscribe to premium and Spotify gives me some CRAZY username, even though I put in what I wanted when I sgined up!! How am I supposed to give that to people to follow, I don't even know what it is it's so ridiculous. What was the point of asking me for my Username, I can't even find it shown anywhere in Account details and it won't let me log in with it, I have to use my email or that ridiculous number you assigned me. What am I missing?

Hey @LoganHelps,
It has nothing to do with the email address. Users are now asked to enter a display name instead of a username 🙂
Your username on your user profile will still show as the name you entered when signing up, and any playlists made by you will show as made by your display name too. The username will only be used for logging in as well as the email address.
Hope this helps to clear things up. If you have any other questions, let me know.
Hey @SABiltongHunter,
Spotify is always testing new things in order to improve. Recently, they've made some changes to the sign-up form, so that users can now choose a display name instead of a username.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks @Maxim, So I read more about this after posting and it looks like there are major issues with sharing playlists etc with this new approach. I wanted to signup for the premium trial as I am currently a Premium Pandora subscriber and wanted to compare, but if I can't share that stuff easily what's the point, I should have kelp my old Spotify account which had a username I wasn't a huge fam of, but was better than a keyboard dump of characters. Am I missing something, will my usernam be used for sharing etc or my "What should we call you name"?
I'm pretty sure this happens if you start as free. Is your email random? My email was a weird one and it set it as my username (could have been a careless mistake though)

@Maxim, can you answer my question, if I share playlists or other things, what will they be shared as, my chosen name or the crazy username?

That still doesn't answer the question of HOW TO SHARE PLAYLISTS. Spotify doesn't limit how many people use the same "What should we call you?" as a Username. So, there could be a million ILoveMusic "Usernames" that called their playlist "Awesome Playlist". This makes it impossible to easily share playlists using this change. Still have to remember that your username is ho1j3uirhor31u0r9fud0yf97ch2ru7389u When you share your playlist. This is DUMB.
