Album/Cover Art not showing for tracks synced from Local Files

Album/Cover Art not showing for tracks synced from Local Files

So let's say I used ID3-TagIT to add cover art for certain songs on my desktop that which are obviously read as local files via the Spotify Desktop application and show the cover art that i've attatched using the editor.

However, since the recent update when I sync a particular album that has some tracks that are both local files and songs already on spotify, the cover art for the local files do not appear whereas the cover art for the songs already on Spotify do. Of course pre-update, this did not occur as the cover art i've added actually did appear on my phone.

(Two screenshots of a local file without any shown cover art and a spotify track with cover art are added)

Anyone else having this issue?

Just to report that the Android team are now looking at this, so I hope something will be done about this soon 🙂

I really hope something will be done indeed, its been to long since this worked and it is such a basic feature.

If you like using the "Your Music" feature have in mind that you are LIMITED to 10 000 tracks. If you want this to be fixed vote for this post

Still no fix? This is getting frustrating..

This is a real pain. 2 years later and theres still no resolution or fix.

This is a known issue with the most recent app. It has been reported and should be fixed in a future version.''

To be fair, as far as I'm aware only recently did they say they were going to look at it. And, AFAIK, now they are! It is a PITA though! I will chase it again soon 🙂

They have to fix that, otherwise they are going to loose many users. Hurry up Spotify!!

This hasn't worked for two years. I don't think they are in danger of losing many users over it in 2016 and they know it. They are focusing on new functionalities like Running (not for me) or Discover Weekly (awesome) and miss the forest for the trees. Local file sync massacre, local artwork not showing, no gapless playing of local files... those bugs are around literally for years and don't get fixed. But hey! We have a new greener icon! 😉

The mistake Spotify are making is trying to be different from Crapple Music and similar by having different functionalities, when the key to winning the market is to have the same functionalities, but 100% working. For instance, Apple's iCloud sync is an absolute nightmare. Build in local file sync that actually works 100% fine and you WIN. But it hasn't happened for two years, so I don't see it happening anytime soon. Expect Xperia Lifelog sync, "your musical memories from 2009" or similarly useful stuff to appear instead.

I have givenup on playing any local music using SPotify's apps, Google Play Music does such a better job at that.

I fixed it.  I don't know exactly what I did, but it seems that a combination of clearing spotify data from the app itself  (spotify then started up to a grey screen with nothing), clearing general cache / Spotify's cache and data from the app list in settings (Spotify then crashed on load (permissions issue)), and then deleting /sdcard/Android/data/com.spotify.music/ (crash crash crash crash)  Reset permissions to allow Contacts, Phone, and Storage, and BAM! It works now.

This was all to fix another issue I was having when local files stopped syncing all together.  Wow...

Hey that's fantastic – but are you guys on Marshmallow? (what Lazz0r writes about permissions makes me think so)

My Xperia is SUPPOSED to get Marshmallow on Monday so I am waiting until then before I delete cache and all other stuff and redownload my thousands of songs...

Edit: Just did some checkin' and this works 80% of the time. For instance I saw the cover for Janet Jackson's Miss You Much EP, then went to next track, went back, cover disappeared. But yeah, it's getting there.

Hah! Perhaps it was just a coincidence that I was messing with Spotify last night when it was updated and fixed? Works for me! I'm just glad local sync and album art work again.

I am indeed on Marshmallow.

It's not just Marshmallow, it's just a generic fix for all OS versions! Works on my Lollipop device. I wish I'd chased them a year ago, but at least it's working now 🙂

For me cover art of online songs don't even show....
Tried everything, still no fix. This issue is beginning to bug me really bad.

Please read the guide linked below for details on the most common issues and how to fix them. Usually a clean install is the first step to take and resolves most of the usual issues; the guide details the steps to take to ensure a full 'clean installation' is achieved - This includes checking redundant folders and a REBOOT!

You'll also be glad to know now that the most recent build of Android shows smaller thumbnails of the local cover art before you go into the actual playlist! So someone's been clearly working hard on this 🙂

Ignore (message mistake)!
