Album art display on lockscreen

The album art does not display on my lock screen. It only displays a rectangular widget to control the music played.
Is it just android? Because it seems to display on IOS devices.
Using Samsung S7.

Same thing on my Galaxy S7 Edge.  I am not getting the album art on lock screen, only the small player widget notification

same issue with my s8, any clue to solve that, i miss my fullscreen album cover ... it works for exemple on oneplus 3T android oreo

Im so glad it doesnt work. I've been wanting a way to remove the album art without removing lockscreen controls. 

Not being able to disable album art was one of the main reasons I didnt use Spotify much, It irked me so much because a lot of art is explicit, and while I dont mind, it can be an awkward moment when it shows up in places I wouldnt want it showing.
