Audio skipping like a scratched CD

Solved!

Audio skipping like a scratched CD

Just since yesterday the audio in my Spotify app has been going out for a second or so about every fee minutes. It sounds like a CD that has been scratched. Didn't know if this was an issue with a new update or something? I have a Samsung Galaxy Active S6.

Thanks Joe!

Your suggestion seems to be the correct solution to the issue for me. Spotify was actually on the offending apps list in my battery section of device maintenance. I took it off there and added it to unmonitored, now it seems to be operating normally.

Good to know. I'm still unsure why this happened. Only spotify was removed from my unmonitored apps so maybe one of their updates made android think it was a totally new app.

I added Spotify to the unmonitored apps and it killed my battery. My battery was at 100 and I didn't touch my phone for over an hour and it was at 5 percent when I looked at it next. This only caused more problems for me. I found that resetting my phone worked, and now, I basically have to restart my phone every other day as a quick solution to the skipping problem. This is getting very annoying. I think Spotify needs to update or something to fix this problem for so many people.

Hi Joe,

After applying your solution the problem seemed to be solved and I could happily listen to all my music again. However now, a few days after the problem was being solved, my music starts skipping again and again it sounds like a scratched CD. I checked my settings and the Spotify app was still added in unmonitored apps. I deleted and reinstalled the Spotify app to my phone and added Spotify to unmonitored apps again but the problem remains the same....

All I can suggest is to get in touch with Spotify here.

Joe you beautiful person

This started happening on my Galaxy S6 a few days ago. I followed the battery advice, but nothing changed. What worked for me was to clear up memory and storage space. I think it was primarily storage space since most of the memory want back up after apps restarted.

Come to think of it, I shot a few videos a few days ago that started filling up my storage space. That might have been the time when the stuttering started to happen.

Glad to hear your problem is solved. I think and hope you're just very lucky, because my s6 Edge just came back from the Samsung reperation centre and is therefore completely empty. I only downloaded the whatsapp, spotify, facebook and instagram app and unfortunately I'm still experiencing the same problem.

Joe, After I made the change in the settings you suggested it still didn't work. I restarted the phone and voila it worked! So if anyone tries this and have no luck, restart your phone after you made the changes. Thanks.

It seems I celebrated a bit early. When I used Spotify today it was stuttering again. The reason being that I'm on Wifi. When it worked yesterday I was playing music while out of the house. I don't remember if it was downloaded music or not.

What I did today was disable Wifi and suddenly it worked perfectly again, screen locked or not. The second I turn on Wifi, it starts to stutter, regardless of the music being downloaded or not. Only happens then the screen is locked.

I've put Spotify on the list of unmonitored apps in the battery settings, but this doesn't help. Any other suggestions to settings that might influence this only when Wifi is used? I don't have any issues with other apps or PCs on the network.

Hey don't know if you'll read this because you posted this a while ago but thank you so much mate! I've been searching for so long and haven't found a solution that worked until now! It was driving me crazy haha. Thanks again mate 🙂

Most of you seem to be using Samsung phones. I started having similar issues a couple of weeks ago and it seemed that my exclusion of spotify from android's power management had been removed. No idea if this was down to a samsung or spotify update but excluding the spotify app again fixed this.

On an S8 (it may be different on other handsets):

  • Go to settings>device management>battery
  • In umonitored apps at the bottom, make sure that spotify is still listed
  • If it isn't, tap "add apps" at the bottom and readd spotify.

For those of you who still have the problem AFTER doing the changes Joe suggested here is what helped for me (Samsung Galaxy S6):

1. Settings -> Device maintenance -> Battery -> Battery usage (below the estimated battery life time) -> Optimize battery usage (overflow menu in the upper right corner)

2. Set the dropdown list to all apps

3. Find the spotify app and disable the optimization (by disabling the check switch).

thx a lot, this absolutely solved it on my galaxy note 5.

This behavior matches mine exactly. On my Samsung Note 5, under these specific conditions, ALL audio, not just Spotify, stutter and glitch like crazy.

Phone must be on Wifi, any wifi, but seems to act worse on my own home wifi.
Phone must be playing audio from any source (Spotify, Beyond Pod, Plex)

Phone screen must be locked

If all these conditions are met, my audio performs horribly, whether I'm streaming music or playing a local copy.

Restarts, reinstalls, battery options, background data management...  nothing helps. The single solitary thing that has worked for me is turning Wifi Off.

This didn't work for me completely, BUT I did one more thing:

If Spotify is a locked app ("Close All" immune), you'll want to unlock.

That plus my usual phone restart (soft) afterward has completely rectified my issue.

I have exact problem as you.  Everything was great for years, now lots of random skipping in all scenarios.  I use an iPhone 7s   Usually streaming blue tooth in my car. I turned off gapless and crossfad too. Didn’t help. Any suggestions??  Driving me nuts.

I'm having this exact problem, first on a Samsung S7 and now on my S9. I looked to see if I needed to go through the above suggestions but all my settings on my S9 are as they should be. I don't know what else to try. Any idea's would be great!!

Whenever I have an audio jack hooked to my droid it skips and slows way down... anyone?

I've been getting it on my S9 since I got it too and I'm very over it. Tried the above and nothing works. HELP!!!

I have been having this same issue of the skipping for the last 6 months. I am also a Premium user and have tried offline v. online, data v. no data and no changes. It happens both when my phone is plugged into a chord/headphones, and when playing out of my phone speakers. I have a iPhone, so the issue isn't only for Samsung users.
