Playlist scrolling position resets when navigating away from the app

Hey folks,

We received some reports mentioning that the position on the playlists resets when navigating away from the app. This is currently Under investigation by internal teams.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your confirmations.

We’re happy to say that this should now be fixed for everyone with v. 9.0.44! Just make sure your app is updated to its latest version.

Cheers!

This is very easy to replicate. To the point I did it on my phone quickly and I had 2 Androids behaving the same way. Can you imagine if I was a Spotify developer and actually spent time actually caring?

Easy. If you open Spotify and a playlist scroll to whatever. Then go to the holding window where you can see what apps you have opened.

Go back to your playlist. Boom, gone.

Workaround you? When you leave Spotify instead of going to the holding window, you jump immediately to the desktop, then if you go back to spotify, still remains as you left.

Easy. You're welcomed. And yes, I so understand coding.

My Question or Issue

I have a playlist over 2000 songs large. When I open the playlist then select a song, then leave the playlist open and open a new app, when switching back the playlist will REFRESH, scroll all the way to the top, and force me to scroll back down. It will not keep everything loaded in the same spot and I'm afraid it may only get worse with more songs. Please fix this bug.
Steps to reproduce:

1. Grow your playlist between 1500-2500 songs long.

2. Open spotify playlist

3. Select a song.

4. Do not leave the playlist window.

5. Go to android home screen.

6. Open a new app.

7. Switch back to the Spotify app either by selecting the window or the app.

8. Your playlist should have refreshed instead of staying at the spot you last left it.

Suggested

An infuriating issue that is completely crippling the experience of using the app, to the point where I'm considering binning it after a decade. If I scroll down in my liked songs playlist, look at the lyrics for some song or do anything to provoke a page reload like closing my phone then it'll anchor back up top, around a quarter of the way down.

If you have a Playlist of like a couple hundred songs or more, and you scroll to the bottom of the Playlist and play something, you stick on the screen where your able to see the seconds on the progress bar of the song, wait like 15-20 seconds of the song playing, then swipe down out of that screen and the app glitches you to somewhat the top of the Playlist. Confirmed it's not just me when I requested my cousin try it (he has an android), and the same result appeared. I have not yet experienced this with my iPhone, it's stable on iPhone, but Android seems to be the target. If this continues I'll have to switch to YouTube Music even though I really don't want to.

My Question or Issue

Is anyone else on Android having the same issue?

jovan_spasovic

Can reply as of March 2025 that this issue has still not been resolved. It is absolutely horrendeous.

jovan_spasovic

Okay I actually tried this and it worked. The fact that this permission does not ever even pop up when app is installed is concerning to say the least. No user should be expected to have to tinker**bleep** like this.

Moonhillcrag

What permission did you change?

Max1307

Exact same thing happens to me, Xiaomi Mi note 10 Pro
