My Question or Issue

Most of the time when I'm trying to quickly scroll to the bottom of a playlist by dragging the scroll bar on the right of the screen, the app fails to register the interaction. This has been an on and off issue for me, but recently this almost never works. Scrolling to the bottom by swiping up on a playlist can take a long time.

Hey @Jackbe,

Thanks for reaching out.

To investigate this further, please let us know the following:

  • You exact app version.
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps like reinstalling the app?
  • Does this happen in all playlists or only specific ones?
  • Would it be possible to send us a short video of how things look on your end?

Keep us posted.

I have this problem recently as well, on a Pixel 9. Like Jackbe, it consistently fails to register that I am touching the scroll bar. I could upload a video, but a screenshot would do just as well. It would be a video of a Spotify playlist sitting still with nothing happening, while in the physical world I am repeatedly clicking and dragging on the little bar. It does not register that I am touching the scrollbar so nothing happens.

Okay, I typed the above when I was having this problem. I am no longer having this problem, so maybe I can help OP out. It occurred to me that before I complain to Spotify I should check that the screen was even registering the touches, so I turned on the pointer location setting in the Android settings, and found that touches at the far left and right screen edges were not even registering with the OS! (To OP, you can check this on your own device by going in the developer settings -- go to "About Phone" in the settings app and click on the "Build Number" button a bunch of times and it will unlock the Developer Settings -- then turn on the "Pointer Location" option in the Developer Settings menu.) So then I Googled it, and there are tons of reddit threads from the last month or two of people mad at Google because their Pixel stopped registering edge touches with a recent Android update. Not sure, maybe this isn't your issue, OP, but I think it was mine.

I ended up fixing it by going to the "Touch Sensitivity" section in the settings app and turning on "Screen Protector Mode". It works reliably for me now. Again, I dunno if this will help you, but I had started to complain here and then found my problem wasn't a Spotify problem and also fixed it, and I always get annoyed when I look stuff up and there are threads with my exact problem but no solution, so maybe this can help.

My app version is 9.0.20.604. This happens on all playlists. Lelysses's suggestion of turning on the pointer location shows that the pointer isn't close enough to the edge of the screen to detect a scroll bar touch without swiping inwards from the edge before scrolling down, which is an awkward motion.

Hey there @Jackbe

Thanks for getting back to us.

Just to confirm, have you also tried turning the "Screen Protector Mode" on as per @lelysses's suggestion? If so, could you let us know if it worked for you as well?

If it didn't do the trick, make sure to send us a screen recording of what you're seeing on your end. You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be waiting for your reply.

Hi,

I have tried turning screen protector mode off and on and it makes no difference.

Please see the video attached for a demonstration of the issue with the pointer location turned on. As you can see, getting the scroll bar to register a touch is possible but it tends to register as a back gesture for the device as well.

Hey @Jackbe

Thanks for all the info you've sent so far.

We've forwarded it to the relevant team to be looked into and we'll let you know in this thread once we have any news.

Cheers!

Hi there folks,

After researching and testing this behaviour on our end, we've concluded that this issue isn't Spotify related and is on Pixel devices after Android 14. With a quick Google search, we've found this same topic being discussed on the Google forums, so we recommend checking those out and continuing with the suggested troubleshooting there.

If there's anything else we can do for you, let us know.
