Can't download or make songs available offline

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 and i can't listen to my songs offline without having to dowload the whole album or playlist. In other words, i can't make a single song offline. My brother, who has an Iphone 6 or 7, has this functionality. I remember my S3 having this functionality, but when i upgraded last spring i could not make my songs available offline anymore.

I'm not sure what to do and haven't found a solution yet.

I don't recall ever being able to download an individual song on android' If it's possible on iOS, there's your solution. If you prefer to stick with android, it's not that hard to add individual songs to a playlist which is set to download. Adding a song to this playlist from the context menu will automatically download it.
