Solved!

Can't put local files from my Spotify playlist onto my android (Galaxy S5) phone. Please Help.

For local files, Spotify says, "If you’re adding local files to your mobile, you first need to import them on a desktop computer, then add them to a playlist to sync to your phone."

I'm assuming this means create your playlists (including local files) on your desktop. Once this is done, open Spotify on your mobile, then download the playlist on your phone so that it can be played offline. I have done this, however some files that are not on Spotify still are "unavailable" when I try to play them on my phone.

Has anyone had any success in getting your local files to work on your phone?

Any issues are normally down to communication issues so here's a list of things to check if local files won't download.

  • Your PC and mobile must be connected to the same Network/SSID and spotify should be running on your PC.
  • In your router settings, check that UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) is enabled.
  • Make sure that Windows shows your network as private and not public.
  • Set exceptions for spotify in any firewall or internet security programme. If you are unsure how to do this, temporarily disable them.
  • Check that you haven't already hit the limit of 3,333 downloads per device or 9,999 downloads across all devices.
  • If you are using a wifi network outside of your home, there is every chance that the protocols used by spotify for downloading are blocked.

If you still can't make it work, you can create a mobile hotspot on your mobile and connect your PC to this hotspot via wifi. Syncing the local files should then work.

Nope, I tried/checked every single thing on this list (including turning off the firewall completely and creating mobile hotspots, both from my phone and my desktop) and both my husband and I still can't sync our local files to our phones. What the heck?! We did purchase a new router a while back, but not sure that's the issue since other UPnP devices in the house work fine. Is there another setting that needs to be changed? Please help.

Are you running the current windows 10 app version of Spotify? Ever since I "updated" to the new app version of Spotify I also am unable to sync local files to my Android phone.
