My Question or Issue

When I connect to either of my Echo Show devices (5 or 10) via Spotify Connect as soon as I try to change the volume using my phone (either up or down) the volume jumps to maximum on my Echo Show. I then am unable to change the volume using my phone unless I close the app and restart it again. This means that I can no longer use Spotify at night for fear of waking everyone up!

So I'm glad it's not just me at least! Until they fix it the workaround is....open app, connect to alexa via spotify connect, play song ( volume should be ok), pause song, pres volume button( it will show as jumping to max or mute, close app, open app. Now you have complete control over volume. It's a real pain as if you make a mistake you get hit full volume!!!

I have the same problem that the volume jumps to 100 when I start a stream and then try to adjust the volume.

My wife nearly killed me and I'm not allowed to listen to music at night anymore, but I can hardly sleep without it.

Same thing happening to me on my pixel 7 pro. I am connected to an echo plus. Scared my wife and kids as we were eating at the dinner table. Everything up to date. Is Amazon maybe trying to get me to sign up to their Music app...hmmm!? Come on Spotify sort it out!

I have the exact same problem, for a few weeks now, with my OnePlus Nord 2 and Echo Studio. It's a real pain in the a**.

Btw, the error always occurs when you play music from Spotify via your account on the Studio - no matter if you change the volume in with the Spotify app open, or if the app is closed and you actually want to change the volume of the phone itself.

Does anyone know if there is a way on Android that you can play Spotify via Connect, but the volume buttons (with the Spotify app closed) do not affect the volume of Spotify on the Echo by default, but that of the cell phone?

I' ve been dealing with this issue as well for at least a few weeks now. The first time, I chalked it up to a glitch. But the behavior is consistently repeatable.

It wasn't until I read the workaround here (start Spotify, attach to Alexa, play song, pause song, exit Spotify, start Spotify (verify Alexa connection), press play, that I realized I had the exact same issue.

And I'll have to remember to try the other poster's trick of simply disconnecting from and reconnecting to Alexa, next time.

I will add that yesterday I applied an Android OS update, so my phone has that now, which included a reboot. After experiencing the SO YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO A SONG ON ALEXA SLIGHTLY LOUDER LET ME TURN THE VOLUME TO THE ABSOLUTE MAX BECAUSE I'M HELPFUL THAT WAY issue again today, I figured it was time to search for the issue online. This thread was literally the first hit in my online search.

To the Spotify support staff: I realize you're trying to do the usual Tier 1 support stuff.  If could you meet us halfway, and provide a link to the Spotify (for Android) changelog for the time period that leads up to when this was first reported? I'm genuinely interested in seeing those details.

Running Spotify version 8.8.28.409

How is there no update on this yet? This is more than just an inconvinience.

How do we get information on progress for this problem? Not only is the problem frustrating.  I find the concept of being directed to a community so that hopefully you can sort out the problem on your own really annoying.  How is it not possible to contact a major company directly to get answers on a 'faulty product'?

I do not believe there is any progress. Mine stopped doing that after I reinstalled the app. At least in my case, that tells me it wasn't a Spotify issue. Some other update, probably Android OS or security patch messed with the integration and it just needed to be reset.

Same problem! Pixel 7 pro and echo. Any update on when the fix is coming?

Hi,

I have gone through whole 2 page expecting to find a workaround / reply from an authority . Looks like still no progress. I will really cancel my spotify subscription because I was using it only on my echo show for my son.   it is a nighmare for all of us at home and even for neighbours now due to this disturbing max sound. How come no response nor solution nor anyone looks like working on this issue. I have to use amazon music now

Same here. I have multiple echos and a sub woofer and when that bad boy fires up to max it feels like an earthquake. There is obviously a serious software issue that urgently needs resolving. It has been going on for some time and reinstalling app fixes nothing. Come on spotify step up to the plate - we are paying subscribers!

The only imperfect solution that works for me is to control the volume via Alexa app.

I'm using xiaomi phone.

Yes- that works for me too- which I think proves beyond doubt that the spotify software is at fault here.

The issue seems to have fixed itself for me now, able to increase/decrease in the spotify app (on Galaxy S22) while playing through the echo with no problems

Same here. Fix is still holding for me too.

Fixed as well 🙂

this is made Spotify unusable for me to not be able to control the volume on my iPhone while using an echo. It will pop up for just a second the echo volume in the Spotify app, and then disappears. Any update on a fix for this?

I have the same issue
