Echo via Spotify pauses my Android audio

I think this is a bug...

My Spotify premium account is connected to my Amazon Echo. When I am listening to some non-Spotify audio on my Android device (LG G5), such as a podcast in Podcast Addict, and then someone at home starts playing music on Spotify via the Echo (which is the same account as Spotify on my phone), then Spotify will start up on my Android and pause the other audio (in this case the podcast), even though the Spotify music is playing on Echo.

What I would expect to happen is Spotify would open on my phone in remote control mode but not stop the local audio stream in another app.

Note that this is a different scenario than the family plan situation described in this other thread.

Help?
