So recently I got a Samsung Galaxy S21 ultra, and the first 2 weeks or so were absolutely fine, with screen on time per charge of around 7-8 hours, but then 1 week ago or maybe a bit more I noticed that my battery suddenly didn't last as long as it did, only getting around 3-4 hours of screen on time, which for a phone that has a 5,000 mah battery is absolutely terrible. So I looked at the apps that were consuming the most battery and would you look at that, spotify drains around 28% of my battery per charge (as seen on the first screenshot). I remembered that my dad owns a galaxy s20 ultra (also with a 5,000 mah battery, but he got it when it came out so it may have degraded a little by now) , and that he also uses spotify to listen to his music, so I decided to have a look at his screen on time and the apps that use the most battery per charge, and I was surprised to see that spotify was also draining a lot of his battery, but in his case, it was even worse, spotify for him drained 35% per charge, which is unacceptable.
Since I discovered this I've tried the following:
- Reinstalling spotify.
- Wiping its cache
- Changing my password
- Disabling background search for other devices
- Disabling Canvas
- Downloading my music and listening in offline mode
- Limiting background usage on my phone's settings (this creates an issue because whenever I'm listening to my downloaded or streamed music with this on, the music will stop for 2 or 3 seconds and then resume, as I said, it happened with both downloaded music, and streamed music, and it happened once or twice per song.)
I have run out of ideas so I'm switching to amazon music to try it out until this issue is fixed, if it isn't, I will cancel my plan and tell my dad to do the same thing, this battery drain is absolutely unacceptable and needs to be fixed ASAP, I can't imagine the battery that spotify must consume with older or smaller phones like the regular s21 or even the s10 or s9, 60% of their batteries per charge?? ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE SPOTIFY!!!!
This thread began in 2022. 2 years later, Spotify tech support still gives its users the runaround. I have just bought a Samsung S24, and noticing my battery draining too quickly, I checked the status and saw that Spotify was the culprit. Searching for a solution led me here... where the solution is clearly not to use Spotify.
I have the same issue on my Samsung Galaxy S10, Android ver. 12, Spotify ver. 8.9.86.551. I did have some issues with the battery for some time, but it has been replaced and I've done factory reset. I don't have earlier screenshots, but it sometimes goes up to even 30% per charge.
When online, doesn't matter if it's streaming through mobile data or wifi (even though most of my songs are already downloaded), there's no change even when it's set to the offline mode. It's on screen for about 5-10 minutes per day, listening in the background for a few hours.
I've been using Spotify for like 5-6 years if not more, but never had issues with performance. The app takes ages to load and I have good internet, I've tried reinstalling the app, clearing the storage and cache, none of them worked. Even when the app is running in background when I change the song from the notification area it takes like 5 seconds to react. Playlists takes ages to load, the home page takes ages to load. The battery drain is even more horrible. Changing a song takes ages. Please fix the performance issues. I can't use Spotify Lite either cause it got discontinued, it was way faster.
Thank you

My Question or Issue
I seem to be having the same issue right now. I listen to audiobooks or podcasts when I walk my dog and it was always fine. A few days ago I left the house with 70% battery and came home 45 minutes later with 40% and an unusually hot phone. I always save my media for offline use. I use the exact same bluetooth headphones I've used for years with this phone. I have a Galaxy S9 running Android 10, which admittedly is old but it only happens with Spotify, I don't have these problems when I listen via Audible or any other app. Reinstalling Spotify didn't help.

My Question or Issue
I got the new S25 1 month ago and have noticed some battery issues with Spotify, that I never had on my old phone (A52s).
When I listen to music via the Spotify App on my headphones or on my JBL speaker, Spotify consumes a lot of battery power. You can see this in the dark mode screenshots provided. On this day, I was listening to music while working. The big drop that you can see from the middle to the end of the graph in the screenshot is when I started working. During this period I was not using my phone (expect to skip some songs every maybe 15 minutes) and had the screen turned off, expect for the always on display. During this time spotify used 11.5% of my battery by just listening to music. I never had this problem on my old Samsung A52s, where i could listen to spotify for a whole day without noticing any battery drain.
What I tried over the last week after noticing this: Activate battery savings, put spotify into deep sleep, listen without "Always on display", restart phone (multiple times), force restart spotify, uninstall and reinstall. All of this did not help. I am not using the spotify widget.
The two dark mode screenshots show the overall battery usage and spotify battery usage of this one day that i described above, but it has been the same for the last month with the new phone. Today for example this the white mode screenshot, where the two big drops are caused by Spotify as well
Same heavy battery usage on a Galaxy S25 with Spotify the obvious culprit. I have the phone in my pocket and after half an hour or more notice it is warm. Pull it out and hey presto high battery drain. A restart usually fixes it, but not before I have lost a major chunk of battery life and the phone has heated up. Previously never happened on a Zenfone 9.
Hey folks,
Apologies for the radio silence here.
We'd like to investigate this issue so please let us know the following details (whichever you haven't sent already) so we can forward them to our tech team:
We'll be on the lookout for your responses.
I have the feeling that this whole thread is useless and kind of ignored by spotify. Did this ever get forward to any team, or are you still collecting? I was so annoyed by this battery problem, that I wen that far, that I facotry resetted my phone 3 weeks ago. At first it seemed to have worked, but after 3 days the problem returned. Today for example it looked like in the Screenshot. I basically only listened to spotify and it drained my whole battery in less then 17 hours...
Hi folks,
Thanks for flagging this and for all the info you've provided!
While we can't give you a specific timeframe for if or when this will be fixed, we've passed the details you shared on to our tech folks, so that they can have a look as well. In the meantime, make sure you're always running the latest version of Spotify so you don't miss out on any updates.

I've found that using my mobile Spoftiy app and casting to my Google Home actually consumes my mobile battery while the tunes are running. So if I leave the house and come back the songs are still playing via my phone app, consuming both battery and data since I would not be on wifi.
But if I log into Spotify from my home computer or laptop, connected to my wifi and power, and then stream/cast to Google Home, I can get the same great tunes, but not drain my mobile battery. I will still have music when I leave and when I return and a healthy battery. Anyone agree?
