“Liked songs” on android auto stuck on “loading Content”

I recently bought a new vehicle that has android auto. I have downloaded and installed the Spotify app, which generally works fine, with one exception.

The “liked songs” playlist just says “loading content”. I’ve let it sit for 30 minutes, and nothing changed. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app… Resetting the entire android auto interface… Nothing has worked. Other playlists load just fine.

Thanks for getting in touch about this and welcome to the Community! 

As a first step, could you try disconnecting your phone from Android Auto, logging out from your account, restarting your phone, logging back in and connecting it again?

If that doesn't make any difference, it's worth running a clean reinstall of the app by following these steps. This can be helpful to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.

If that doesn't do the trick, make sure that your car's infotainment system is up to date and that there aren't any battery optimization settings enabled on your phone.

Thanks for your reply. I have already tried all of the above steps as mentioned in my initial post. I have logged out and back in, I have deleted and reinstalled the app, and I have reset the entire android auto interface, then reinstalled the app again. None of that has worked.

all of the custom playlists load. The only one that does not is the “liked songs” playlist, which is unfortunately what I normally listen to. This seems like some sort of integration issue between Spotify, android auto, and GMC’s system.

Could you let us know if this happens when you try streaming as well or if it only happens with your downloaded content? 

On another note, would you mind asking a friend or a relative to log in to their account on your phone to check if they can replicate this with their own account?

So it only happens when I try to open the liked songs playlist through the interface in my truck. And if I select any other playlist, including the daily mixes, they open just fine. Strangely, if I go into Spotify in my phone and start playing from my liked songs playlist, that song will also be selected in my car, and if I hit next song, it will go to the next song on my “liked songs” playlist.

Good call to check with someone else’s phone, and I’m glad I did. I logged out of my own account in the vehicle and logged in with my wife’s account (who happens to be on my family account), and it worked just fine. Logged out of hers and back into mine, and the same symptom persists! Really annoying! Now, she only has 84 “liked songs“ and I have over 620. Could that be making a difference?

Thanks for getting back to us.

The Android Auto app has some limitations, but that number of tracks shouldn't be an issue. Nevertheless, it's good to try copying them to a new playlist and reducing them in increments to see if that makes any difference.

I reduced down to 450 and it’s still the same. Moving all to a playlist seems like a real pain and kind of defeats the purpose of “liked songs”. I appreciate you guys help with this, but I feel like I’ve exhausted everything I can do on my end. I think this takes a little bit of systems investigation on your side now.

If possible, you can also send us a video recording of what's happening on your side. You can attach the videos in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload them to YouTube or Google drive and make them public, so we can visualize them.
 

On another note, would you mind sending us the exact make/model and firmware version of the affected device?

Lastly, is this happening if you change the internet connection you're using? is this happening over 3G/4G? WiFi? Both? If possible, it'd be really helpful if you could connect the device to WiFi to check if you notice any difference.

I’ve got the same problem. This is my fourth GMC and Chev truck that I’ve had this problem with. It’s not just limited to the original posters request for help.

Could you let us know which troubleshooting steps you've already tried? That way we can avoid repeating any steps.

If you haven't tried yet, would you mind giving a different internet connection a go to see if the same happens?

I was able to get around this by logging onto Spotify from a browser on my computer.  I created a new playlist, selected all of my liked songs and copied them to this new playlist.  They all showed up under that new playlist the next time I tried it in my car.   It’s not ideal since you have to regularly move over new “liked” songs but it’s an easy first time workaround.

Had this same problem today, searched for the answer with no luck. Fumbling around I may have solved it. Liked songs had "smart" shuffle turned on. Turned this off on my phone, next time I got in the car problem solved. 

Hope this helps someone else.
