Local Files on Android

Local Files on Android

Hello!

Recently I've been encountering issues with playing local files off of Spotify on Android (Nexus 6P, Android 7.0). I have local files in a playlist with Spotify content (I do have Premium) and usually just click the green download button on Spotify for Android to sync all the files. However, whenever I try this recently, Spotify just says "Waiting to download" and the songs that are supposed to sync are all greyed out. I've reinstalled Spotify on my phone (according to the FAQ), restarted apps on my phone and my computer, made sure there are 5 GB of storage left on my phone, and logged into the same WiFi network that my Mac is connected to. The songs that won't download will play on my Mac but they won't play on my phone. Does anyone know what I can do to get the files to sync and play on my phone?

Hi. Thanks for your detailed post. The "waiting...) message usually indicates a communication problem so maybe we can start with a list of things for you to look at.

  • Your PC and mobile must be connected to the same Network/SSID and spotify should be running on your PC.
  • In your router settings, check that UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) is enabled.
  • Make sure that Windows shows your network as private and not public.
  • Set exceptions for spotify in any firewall or internet security programme. If you are unsure how to do this, temporarily disable them.
  • Check that you haven't already hit the limit of 3,333 downloads per device or 9,999 downloads across all devices.
  • If you are using a wifi network outside of your home, there is every chance that the protocols used by spotify for downloading are blocked.

If you still can't make it work, you can create a mobile hotspot on your mobile and connect your PC to this hotspot via wifi. Syncing the local files should then work.
