Nexus 6p Spotify disappearing from notification bar

I am a new premium user for Spotify. I am having an issue where the icon disappears from the notification bar and then after some time the app just stop playing music. I can clear data or uninstall and it will go back working for a while but within a few hours it does the same thing. I have tried uninstalling Google play music and disabled the built in app. I have added Spotify to the exception list for doze. I am not sure what else to do for this very annoying problem.
