My Question or Issue
Hi,
I’ve been experiencing an issue when playing music from Spotify on my Alexa speaker. Previously, I could start playback on my phone, select my Alexa speaker as the device, and then close the Spotify app on my phone without any issues—the music would keep playing on Alexa.
However, recently, whenever I close the Spotify app on my phone, the music stops immediately on Alexa. It seems like the playback is not properly transferring to Alexa and is instead still dependent on my phone staying open.
I’ve checked my media output settings on my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and Spotify is set to Cast, not Mirror, so that shouldn’t be the issue. Everything was working fine until a recent update (not sure if it was Spotify or Alexa), and now it’s broken.
I’ve already tried the following troubleshooting steps:
None of these have fixed the issue. This is really annoying. What can I do to make Alexa keep playing music after I close the Spotify app on my phone, like it used to?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Bug is back @Joan.
Any update to this? Still seems to be an issue.
Hey folks,
Thanks for the patience!
Our tech folks are still looking into this and working on a fix. We'll let you know as soon as we have more info.
Take care.
Several weeks ago, maybe months ago, if you open and start music on a smart TV Spotify app, it would, of course, allow you to control it via your mobile device.
And when you closed out of Spotify on the mobile device, it would keep playing, I assume the logic being that if you started it on your TV, you probably want it primarily played on your TV.
Now when you close out of the app on your mobile device while it's playing on your TV, it pauses whatever you're playing. You either then need to find your remote and push play or reopen the app on your mobile device to keep playing.
This doesn't make sense, please bring it back to the way it was. I liked being able to use my mobile device as a remote essentially when working out without having to carry my TV remote with me.
Same issue
Many thanks!
As a side note, the Spotify app has had more flagrant issues than almost any other app I've used, from issues re-occurring to changes that don't appear to have gone through a feedback system to very surprising bugs. This is ironic considering Spotify's size and reputation.
Is anything being done about this?

I've been having the same issue . Cast to my Google device but as soon as I close the Spotify app it stops playing. This issue is recent it's never happened before does anyone know how to fix it??
This was recently fixed, check you have the right version by going to:
settings and privacy > about
in the Spotify app
Look at the number next to version. It should be 9.0.30.642
If not, download the latest update which will fix it
