My Question or Issue

I like to listen to the Discover Weekly playlist on my way to and from work - it's a 30 minute drive so it usually has enough music for most of the week. But I've noticed that in the last week or so the shuffle feature doesn't 'remember' which songs it has played, as if it redoes the shuffle every time I stop or start playing. Which means I get a lot of repeated songs and don't get to hear half of the things on the list!

It definitely wasn't doing this last week - I've noticed that in the recent hot weather my mobile signal is worse and the app stops when it doesn't have the data to download the next song. Could it be to do with this or has something actually been changed in the shuffle algorithm? Would it help if I kept the app open in the background between listening sessions?

  1. similar issues . way back I had an ipod and while Apple music manager was clumsy and really needed a PC it kept track of the frequency of played songs and let you sort and report on your personal usage . I'd like that and more for Spodify .

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

@gabriel_re, we understand that you listen to some songs from the Discover Weekly playlist one day, and the next day the queue reshuffles so it repeats songs that you listened to the day before, is that correct? You mentioned that the internet connection hasn't been the best lately; that can affect the app's performance since if it fails to connect at first so it might generate a new queue instead of remembering the old one. Also, it's a good idea to keep the app open in the background between listening sessions as it might help in this matter.

Lastly, does this only happen with the Discover Weekly playlist or with other playlists as well?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

it does this with all Playlists . I always use my own , not the supplied
lists

Hey @Brucekirkland9

Thanks for your reply.

Could you let us know if this has always happened or if it started happening after a specific event such as an update? Also, sending us the exact make/model, operating system and Spotify version of your device where this happens would come in handy.

On another note, does the same happen if you keep the app open in the background between listening sessions?

Keep us posted.

Been having the same issue since almost the begining of the year. Very very irritating. Can we have some resolution to this please?

Hey @GaryMacD,

Thanks for your reply here.

In this case, we'd like to gather some additional info. Would you mind sending us a full description of what's happening on your side? Does this happen no matter the playlist you choose to play or does it happen only when playing the playlist made for you by Spotify (such as Daily Mixes)?

As by @Eni above, it'd be really helpful if you sent us the make/model and the exact OS of the affected device along with the Spotify version you're running there.

A video recording of the behavior you noticed would be really helpful as well. You can attach the video in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can watch it.

Keep us in the loop!

Any playlist. Soon as I pause, loose the speaker connection and restart it automatically reshuffles. To avoid this I have to take shuffle off, which sometimes is not something I want to do.

I will work on getting a video on Youtube so you can see what is happening. Looking at my activity here, I made a complaint about this last year.

Thanks.

Video of Shuffling, shuffling on its own

This happens both on my desktop app (Windows 10 and Windows 11), my Mobile (Samsung S23+) and myGMC Play. Shuffle should ALWAYS retain its current lineup, no matter the device, wifi (which is irrelevant since most people use this on their mobiles), network or vehicle.

The only time shuffle should shuffle is when you press to reshuffle manually.

Forgot versions:

Desktop App: Spotify for Windows 10/11 (64 bit) 1.2.22.982.g794acc0a

Mobile (Android): 8.8.80.599

Hey @GaryMacD,

Thanks for the info.

We've forwarded it to the relevant team, however we can't confirm when it will be addressed. In the meantime, make sure to keep the app on your devices up to date.

Cheers,
