My Question or Issue

I've selected "unplayed" under the sort menu of a podcast I listen to, and whenever I leave navigate away from the podcast and then back again it has reset to "all episodes". This is really frustrating, as I listen to most podcasts from oldest to newest... and so I need to constantly click sort by unplayed again, every time I go back into that podcast.

I would rather not do a clean install of Spotify, as I've had to do it so many times already. Is this a known bug and can it be fixed?

Thank you

My Spotify on Android has just started to "forget" the filter (e.g show Un-played Episodes only) every time I come out of that particular podcast.  It never used to forget this has just started happening?

it was also happening to me, but a couple of days ago it started working again.

I've noticed that if I go to to my Library and then choose the podcast it remembers my filter. But if I choose the podcast from my home screen it doesn't remember it.

I've noticed that even though I go via my Library to the podcast and it remembers my filter, when I play an episode it's not longer putting the next one in the queue - it just stops when the episode is finished - you have to queue manually?  C'mon Spotify, you've broken it - it was working fine until recently.

The filter settings always default to oldest. I keep changing them to oldest unplayed and every single time I close and open the app it resets to just oldest. How can I make it stay?

Hey @entwright,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

If this issue is happening on your playlist, playlists made for you or your Liked songs, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article. This is often an overlooked step, but it’s more thorough than a quick one and can be helpful in getting rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

However, if this is happening on podcast shows, it's expected behavior as it's not content saved on your library, but streamed directly from the podcast page. Keep in mind that on podcasts shows the default setting to display episodes is from newest to oldest to keep the new episode at the top of the page so it can be easily accessed by the followers.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for the answer and information.
Yes I am listening directly from the podcasts page.

Just to confirm, there is no way for the app to save the filter settings
that I put in? Specifically when I am filtering the pod cast episodes.

Cheers

This seems to be true for me as well.

I've noticed recently that mine seems to have fixed itself. At least for the podcast I normally listen to (I have not looked at other podcasts). The podcast page listing episodes saves the unplayed filter and whether I select oldest or newest. For reference the Spotify version I'm on is 9.0.12.567. Could the ability to save filters vary by podcast?? That would be strange behavior, but....

I don't think you can.  Honestly I bailed totally on Spotify.  Their
podcast player is just defective and they are not fixing anything. Check
out Pocket Casts. It will do everything you want it to.

My Question or Issue

As of a recent update, selected filters on podcasts only apply when the podcast is opened from the library and search tabs. If it is opened from home tab then the filters are reset.

Just did a while ago, switched to Apple Podcast app and Apple Music.

Same here. I set it, it works, I leave that podcast and then go back a minute later and the filter has automatically returned to all episodes. Really frustrating. You get a fix?

No. There is not a fix. And they really aren't working on anything.

I totally bailed on Spotify.  Life is too short to deal with bad software.

For podcasts, there is a really good program called Pocketcasts that
does all this. And the free version is pretty capable.

@robigouk I have been doing this, and seems to work.  Still feel like it should remember the settings I picked from any menu. But this is good enough for now.

I have been following robigouks comment and it seems to work.  Even tho it is not a real fix. It makes it easier

Basically, if you access from the Library instead off of your home screen it remember the filter.

Pocketcasts is fantastic! Comparible to some paid apps...

How is this still a problem after three years? Make it remember per podcast, and maybe make a default choice in Settings.

I tried going through Library, but it doesn't remember it for me, even with app kill and restart. Have not tried a clean install. Shouldn't even be an option, should not be necessary - make sure there is a clean cache button somewhere in settings or help.

Now there's a new problem - episodes that are started it's no longer shown when filter is "unplayed". Which is somewhat correct just not very practical. Filter should be "unfinished" and should include current playing episode, but it is not.

This really sucks!

Your filters are there if you access your podcast from your library and NOT from the Home Screen. For some reason when accessing your show from the Home Screen your filters can be reset.
