Spotify artwork not being picked up / displlayed by 3rd party app / hardware

I have a BMW nav VI sat nav on which you can link the device to your phone via BT to listen to your music/ playlists

The nav unit media screen has simple display - Artwork  - Artist - track name

and the the usual play/pause fwd / back buttons

All the commands work / fwd / back & play / pause

The artists name and track are diplayed correctly, but for some reason the artwork fails to show in the required artwork box ..

Its not just with Nav Vi unit, it also wont display artwork when being linked with other Nav programs  -  The only exception being Waze
