Spotify automatically switches to android auto from the radio.

Spotify automatically switches to android auto from the radio automatically. I have this feature disabled as I want to be the one to decide when I am listening to Spotify or not. Once I change back to the radio, a few minutes later it will automatically switch again. Also if i disconnect my phone from android auto in the car spotify will continue to play, somtimes I don't hear it and it just plays for hours. It's very frustraiting. I've looked at alot of help topics and nothing seems to work. It has been doing this for a few months now and I am hoping that there is some sort of resolution soon. I have also looked at the android auto help.
