Spotify not allowing notifications from other apps

Over the last few months, I have been having problems when using spotify and other apps such as runkeeper or waze. If i'm listening to music, spotify will audio duck when I receiver a notification from either of these apps, but the sound from the notification doesn't play over the top of it.

Has anyone else had this problem?

@emhardy1 this happens to me too, but i was under the impression that this was by design rather than a bug?

i've experienced that audio duck on multiple music apps.
