My Question or Issue
In a seemingly random fashion Spotify decides that the queue on a given playlist has only 2-3 songs and plays only those songs instead of continuing down the playlist. This happens on the phone app and also when I connect my phone to my car using Android Auto. The issue is not dependent on the playlist, it happens with all playlists, whether they are created by me or by Spotify. I have read of a similar issue that apparently was not resolved and I have tried all the solutions suggested on that thread. These include being sure that both apps, Spotify and Android auto have unrestricted battery use and also deleting all data and clearing the cache from the Spotify app and then doing a clean reinstall. The playlists that I'm talking about are all downloaded to my phone but I'm not using the off-line data option.
Hey @mascoli ,
Thanks for posting in the Community and the troubleshooting done so far.
One more thing to try as well - could you log in on a different account on your device and see if this issue is persistent?
Let us know how that went,
Cheers!
Hey @mascoli,
Thanks for your reply.
In this case, would you mind logging in to your account on a different phone to check if the same happens?
Additionally, we'd like to know if this happens when the Shuffle is on.
Lastly, could you check if the same happens if you turn Offline mode on?
Keep us posted.
Hey @mascoli ,
Thanks for the great troubleshooting so far.
Any news on what the behavior of the playlists with Shuffle mode on/off is?
Also do try creating an account for testing purposes to see what is the behavior with the new account.
Keep us posted,
Cheers!
I've been playing playlists or albums (all downloaded from Spotify) on shuffle for about a week now and the issue has not occurred.
I'm not sure what to make out of this, however, because the issue does not occur all the time. I will keep using shuffle to see what happens but even if the issue does not occur when using shuffle I don't think that having shuffle all the time is a good solution. Some albums are meant to be heard using the song sequence recorded in the album and some of my playlists were also meant to be heard in the sequence that I used to arrange the songs when I made the playlist.
Hey @mascoli,
Thanks for getting back to us.
The behavior you mention seems to be intermittent and due to a number of factors such as the OS, factory settings and limitations from certain devices.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. Rest assured, we'll pass it onto the right teams at Spotify, as we always strive to improve your experience.
Hopefully you'll see if it gets improved, however, we can't guarantee when or if this will addressed. In the meantime, we'd recommend always keeping your Spotify app up to date with the latest version ,so that you don't miss out on any fixes.
Take care!
Kind of a lame answer and I will not accept this as a solution because it is not a solution. I used Apple Music before I switched to Spotify and I did not have this problem. I think I will cancel my Spotify subscription and go back to Apple Music.
Your last response suggested to me that you are not really interested in solving or working on this problem. If you are, however, here is some additional information. I know now that the issue does not occur when using Shuffle to listen to playlists/albums. It occurs only when I listen to the playlists/albums in the order in which the songs are listed. Also, I noticed that at some point when I'm playing the playlist/album it stops at the beginning of one song. When I hit the play button to start playing that song is when the issue occurs. At that point, the queue becomes only 2-3 songs long.
Hi there @mascoli,
Thanks for the reply.
This issue might very well be related to your account, this is why we suggested trying out a new free account to test if you experience the same behavior.
Since this is happening when you're connected to your car when this happens, it's also possible that the Android Auto connection alters your play queue. If that's the case, this is indeed something controlled by the device's OS and cannot be manually adjusted from the Spotify app settings.
Keep us posted on how you get on.
