Spotify prevents android phone from auto-locking

Spotify prevents android phone from auto-locking

Spotify prevents android phone from auto-locking. The phone does still auto-lock but it is depending on the content that is shown.
- it does not lock when some video is playing (eg tiles with moving pictures) there should be a difference in video that was intentionally selected and video that is "suggested" (eg in the main search-tab)
- it does not lock when a playlist is displayed

In these "normal" situations, the phone should always auto-lock

When lyrics are displayed in full screen, the auto-lock is intentionally blocked, that is ok.

I have this same question! It's annoying haha

Same problem here

Hey folks,

For anyone still experiencing this issue: make sure to provide the make, model, OS version and the exact Spotify version you're currently running so we can forward your reports to the relevant teams.

We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

No problem. You're right that I should have included this right from the get go.

I'm on Spotify version 9.0.10.415 for Android, running it on a Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold on up-to-date Android 15.

Spotify version 9.0.12.567

Samsung S23, Android 14, One UI 6.1

✌️

Unless I'm mistaken, this would appear to be fixed in Android Spotify version 9.0.12.567. I've had the screen showing a few annoying animated items, which would have prevented the phone from going to sleep previously but are no longer doing so.

I can't reproduce any more (using version 9.0.12.567). For me, this issue is fixed.

Hey folks,

Thanks for the patience!

As some of you already noticed, this should now be fixed. @tsohr@grsbanks, thanks for posting about this in the thread! In case anyone continues to encounter the issue, make sure you're running the latest version of the app

Take care.

Gave up on this last year after so many months of it going unfixed.
I do still update google apps every few months and found this was still broken March 2025 ver 9.0.28.630.
Lots of email with support to no avail. The whole support process is like death by a thousand cuts. Try this. Try that. Try standing on one leg while jumping up and down. The whole support process just says go away. We like your money, but we know most of you won't leave the service.

If you've tied the usual stuff and still have the screen NOT dimming when it should, try this:
Apps and Devices / In the Car / Keep Spotify Open / OFF

I had problems in both my car and a bluetooth speaker at home, and this did the trick.

Another to try:
Content And Display / Canvas / OFF

What's wrong with you spotify?
Why do you have some many defaults the defeat screen dimming?
These should be off by default, and let people turn them on if they want.
And put some text on these option that that may lead to excess battery usage due to lack of screen dimming.

And teach your F**** help desk people about these.
Countless emails with them never solved this.
Found this on my own.

And find a way to do a clean re-install that does not purge the music cache.
Many of us do not have unlimited data, and doing that really sucks.
