Starts playing the second i open

Solved!

Starts playing the second i open

My Question or Issue

recently I had to replace my phone due to some component issues, ever since I got my replacement and redownloaded all apps, whenever I open Spotify, it instantly starts playing the song I was last listening to.

I usually use 2-3 music apps so anytime I open Spotify while listening to a song from another app, and Spotify just starts playing and cuts off my song, it's quite irritating, I've tried looking for answers about this issue as this never happened with my previous phone which I had literally less than a few weeks ago and which also had the same version of Spotify.

All other topics about this stuff is about auto play and some other things, I've tried them all but none seem to work, wondering if anyone else has this issue or can provide a solution

Hi AlejaR,

I will upload a screen recording link(file too big for here).

I use a Shanling UP4 dac/amp bluetooth device for my audio listening. Phone and spotify info is in video. This issue will be present both when using connect with my laptop, and also without connect. It will also occur regardless if I the spotify app is already open in the background or not.

thanks

also in the vid, the song that plays is one that I'd never even heard before, sometimes it does play something that I was recently listening too and sometimes even the last song. I can try to figure out a pattern of why it's different if that's helpful.

Hey there @muzzarobbo

Thanks for getting back to us.

We've been receiving reports about this and after running some tests we concluded that this is expected behavior on some devices. For more info, we suggest that you check the Solution of this thread.

Hope this clears things up. If you need a hand with anything else, the Community is here for you.

thanks for letting me know.

thats quite annoying though, it never used to do it with this bt device. and it's not an issue on other music apps.

I had to go into settings>apps>Spotify>clear cache. Now my device actually works as intended, as opposed to auto playing music every time I open the app.

just tried this but it didn't seem to make any difference

@AlejaR, I'm having the same issue on a Pixel 6a when connected to Bluetooth. @Eni, I don't believe this is expected behavior. (It didn't do it before, and other apps such as Amazon Music don't do it.)

Hello,

My phone does exactly the same thing (Samsung S21 Ultra) and its only when connected to a Bluetooth device that whenever you open the app whatever song that I had recently played, starts playing. It's really annoying! I've just upgraded my phone and it worked perfectly on my old phone (Samsung S8) with no issue. I've tried everything and can't seem to fix it. My phone and the app are all up to date as well.

Has anyone found a solution?

Many thanks,

Abbi

This is ridiculous.

1. If it's expected behavior why so many people complain about? Maybe it's time to open a user story or a change request ?

2. Your solution requires installations of a paid app. That's rich, given that a lot of users here pay for a Spotify premium.

3. It's not even the right solution. The problem here is that a last played songs start to play when you open Spotify. The "solution" talks about situation when a music playback app is opened when you connect to Bluetooth. Not the same thing.

I don't know what tests you ran but they clearly have nothing to do with that issue.

P.S. I tested the proposed "solution" and it doesn't work. So save your time and money.

Same as @Abbi004, I upgraded my phone and it worked perfectly on my old phone (still does), but continues to do this nonsense on my new phone. Other music/audiobook apps don't have this problem, so it shouldn't be considered "expected behavior".

what a load of rubbish the support for spotify is. nothng is ever solved deliberately here

Glad it solved the problem for a total of one user. well done!

usual lack of support from the people we pay for a faulty service

This bug has gotten worse. Now it not only autoplays a paused track when entering the app, but it goes off and autoplays a different, suggested podcast, rather than the current podcast that's paused. Very much so *not* expected behavior.

Edit: This added issue seems similar to the following, which, based on other commenters, is just requiring regular Bluetooth in their car: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Ongoing-Issues/Connecting-to-the-car-automatically-plays-Liked-Song...

I have the same issue and and hope it gets fixed. It's very annoying to have playback start automatically every time I open the app.

It will sometimes even do one worse: *after* disconnecting from a Bluetooth device, it continues to do it. I had to restart my phone for it to stop doing that part today.

happened to me also, i used to use wired headphones until it broke so i bought wireless bluetooth headphones and everytime i close spotify and open it again it plays the song i was last listening to and i've tried to find solutions but nothing is happening and everything everyone in here is going through is happening to me also. very annoying.

i've literally gotten tons of jump scares everytime the song plays on it's own everytime i open the app 😕
