Widget disappears when paused on lock screen

I'm currently using a Samsung s10e using the free version of Spotify. I belive this started after I cancled my premium account but I cant be too sure of this as I do recall periods where it did occur with the premium account.

My Question or Issue

For a while now if I ever want to pause a song or podcast the widet would disappear. The song did pause and all the other buttons worked fine. I would then have to unlock my phone and play the song via the drop down or from the Spotify app.
