hi,
I'm registered at spotify via my google account. When I try to install spotify kids for my son, the HowTo article offers solutions for people who've got their own login credentials for spotify (not the case for me) or people who are logging in via Facebook or Apple (also not the case for me). So I'm stuck and can't log into spotify kids. Sending an email to my google email adress ("log in without password) didn't work either.
Does anybody have a clue how to get out of that deadlock?
Hey there @lamisoft,
Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.
If you've signed up with Google, that means that the email you have registered on your Spotify account is the same as the Google account. You can check this info on your Account page.
On another note, you can find all the steps on how to log in and create Kids accounts here.
Let us know how it goes.
Hi Eni,
unfortunately that didn't work...
I'm not a specialist of cross-platform login systems, but choosing the "log in using your xxx account" most likely simply means that xxx provide personal information and some sort of identity verification token to you, it doesn't mean you've got access to my xxx password. So as I understand it, when I've chosen "log in using your google account" you've got my name and my email adress, but you haven't got my password, but instead rely on some sort of token or other other mechanism to verify that it's indeed me loggin in.
I also tried out the "log in without password if you're using your facebook account", that works half the way, even with my google account: I did get an email on my gmail account which contains a button with a link that I should click on. However that email is only available in MY gmail account, which isn't available on my SON's tablet. So this is a dead end either.
Maybe I'm still doing something wrong (which might well be the case), but to me it appears you've got a concept problem with spotify kids in restricted permissions environments when their parents have chosen the "log in using your google account" option. Maybe some of your developers should look into this?
Best regards, Matthias
Thanks for returning with this info @lamisoft.
If you've not done this already, you can reset your account's password via this link: https://accounts.spotify.com/password-reset and then use the email address and password of your Spotify account to log in to the Kids app on your son's tablet.
Let us know if this does the trick 🙂
Hi Ivelina,
that unfortunately doesn't work, because spotify doesn't even know my google Email Address - see the attached screenshot. I think that's the whole point about these alternative login methods (e.g. using Facebook or Google accounts): so users don't have to remember yet another account's login details. In the background, when I click on "login using your google account", Spotify probably somehow talks to Google to receive a confirmation of my identity. I don't know how this works in detail and how this is reflected in the Spotify user database, but this process is broken in the Spotify Kids app! (Actually I think it's worse: this mechanism has most likely never been implemented in the app...)
And remember: the kids app is most likely installed in special android environment that has additional restrictions. I've set up the android kids environment with default settings, and it doesn't even have a browser, not to mention an email client. So there's no point in sending a special link in an email to the account owner so he or she can unlock the kids app - it's going to be very difficult if not impossible to open that link in the android kids environment.
So again, I might be wrong, but I think what should be done is to pass this issue on to the developers of the kids app to finally get it fixed! Can you please let me know what you think and what your next step will be?
Best regards, Matthias
Hey @lamisoft,
Thanks for the info!
It's possible that the email address is recorded in an alternative fashion.
For Gmail email addresses, it's common that they can get saved as e.g. xxx@googlemail.com instead of xxx@gmail.com.
I'd advise testing both options as there's definitely an email saved to your account, it's probably just a format error.
Once you manage to change the password, the rest should fall into place as well 🙂
Hope this helps! Keep us posted 🙌🏼
