What device are you using? Have you tried performing a clean reinstall of the app from the Google Play Store? This will take care of any potentially corrupted cache and ensure you're running the latest version of Spotify. It's worth checking if there are any pending OS updates and installing them as well.

If you're using any battery/performance optimization settings, make sure Spotify is excluded (or try disabling them temporarily to see if it helps). I'd also recommend checking if Spotify is allowed to run in the background. You can do this in your Android's settings > Apps > Spotify.
