[Mac] How do make files in my Local Files list play? And gray out unplayable ones?

Local files are not playing from the Local Files list. They're not grayed out. I get an error when I click to play one: 

• "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it."

If it's already showing in my Local Files list wouldn't that mean it's already been imported?
