Trouble connecting to Google Smart Speakers and other devices.

For a few weeks now, when I want to connect the Spotify app on my phone to one of our Google Smart Speakers or my Yamaha Receiver, I have to try to do it 2 or 3 times before it sticks.   We use a Google Wifi router so we'd hope that's not the issue.   I'm open to suggestions but really just want Spotify to know we're having this issue so that maybe they can resolve it with an update.
