My Question or Issue
I have had Spotify since it came out; I upgraded to a premium plan with my family in 2018. The decision to stop supporting Car Thing breaks my heart. My truck doesn't have bluetooth or a display so when Spotify Car Thing came out I was ecstatic. I love Spotify I have always thought it was way better than apple music because they would try to make**bleep** like the car thing and they weren't some huge heartless corporation like apple. But this and the fact that our premium plan gets raised a dollar all the time has made me rethink my position.
My whole family uses I phones and have been discussing switching to apple music for YEARS. I WAS ALWAYS THE ONE TO KEEP THEM WITH SPOTIFY. Now I am over it if you don't make this right and my car thing stops working in December we will be switching to apple music.
I understand not making any more of this product but I am disheartened that my device will not longer work after only having it for two years. Some folks haven't even had it for that long and this product wasn't cheap. To simply brick Car Thing rather than making it still usable is abhorrent. I love my Car Thing for driving and I hope things change.
If the car thing is going away, can we please have voice command enabled on the phone app? That would be my suggestion to help me.
Another dev here, with some devops experience. The costs for this should be miniscule or nothing. If they are not, they should open-source it and the community will make a version that costs them nothing.
They just keep telling me to come here, so here I am.
Why offer something then take it away just like that with NO compensation??
Now they've stepped up their game. They're now deleting my posts about them deleting other posts about compensation.

Literally so ridiculous, come on Spotify this is just sad at this point!!
Nevermind that Google home has been a terrible experience over the years, I was really happy that car thing was a smart device that actually worked! In fact, I was discussing with someone just the other day that "hey Spotify" could easily beat other voice assistants since it works well even when you're listening to super loud music. I don't understand how Spotify can simply ditch Car mode and Car thing altogether when both até wonderful safety features for those of us who can't afford the lastest in car technology. Are the higher ups getting paid by car brands to do this? Because other than this I can't think of a reason why they'd just go on and brick something most of us paid for and use on a daily basis.
Same! Premium subscriber for over 10 years here. Did the pre-buy for carthing. I will cancel my subscription over this. I'm on my second attempt with customer service right now. We should at least be compensated in free premium months or something.
I understand discontinuing support for the device, but don't shut down the features and hardware we purchased.
To be honest, I have a feeling voice recognition is the only reason Car Thing is actually getting bricked. That is the only significant cost associated with the product that I can think of for Spotify. If we do manage to get Car Thing extended beyond December, it will likely be with voice controls removed.
Speak with your wallets people. Long time Spotify user here. Will cancel this as soon as they brick my device and head to Apple Music. They dont care. Why should we?
Good luck to Spotify. They need it.
Some users are being offered 8 months of premium. I was not. There is no explanation for this. Posts about this are being deleted.
they should unlock the devices and open them to community development
They just deleted this person’s post as well!
Same as Netflix after the big customer exodus. They don't care. Too big to fail. We should be happy that they stoop to our level and accept our money. 9 year customer. Canceling today.
I have so many screenshots of these deleted posts! Crazy they send you here from customer service just to delete the post they don’t like!!!
Seriously, I’ve been a Spotify fanboy for years. I’ve been pushing Spotify over Apple Music from the get-go. I’ve even bought hundred dollar gift cards for my cheap ass friends to get a yearly subscription. I am a fan of all things, Apple, save for their music streaming. I bought a Car Thing for my son and it is now going to be a brick? I do believe that Spotify is better than Apple Music but I do not like getting **bleep** over. I really think you guys need to give me credit for my monthly subscription to cover the cost of the car thing. Otherwise, I’m gonna have to start using some of those free months of Apple Music to see if I can make the leap and go all Apple. I know it would save me money. Money is not really the point here. It’s about customer service, especially for loyal customers who’ve been selling your product for you for years. This is about respect. Americans are fickle and we don’t like getting **bleep**. Trust me, we will go against our own best interests out of principal.
