Hey folks!
I’m excited to introduce a new addition to the Spotify desktop experience: the Spotify Miniplayer!
Whenever I’m working, Spotify is always running in the background. I keep jumping from track to track and this means I keep switching between windows. If I have to adjust volume or change the Repeat mode, for example, I need to switch to the Spotify window. I bet that you also felt from time to time that there should be a better way to handle these controls?
Well, we got lucky! That’s what the Miniplayer is for! Looks like this nifty feature is designed to give us maximum control over our music and podcasts with minimal intrusion, ensuring the workflow goes undisturbed.
Here’s a couple of things we can expect from the new Miniplayer:
Whether you're into the music, podcasts, or both, the Miniplayer is your go-to. It delivers a balanced experience, catering equally to both video and music content. I really like how it takes the video podcasts out in a picture-in-picture mode with controls. I can make the video size larger or smaller based on my preference.
I find it neat how the Miniplayer floats over other applications. I can get all the playback controls I need without getting distracted. This helps me stay focused and does not disturb my workflow.
The Miniplayer doesn't replace the main Spotify window. It's easy to switch back and forth. I can open the Miniplayer or close it without interrupting the listening experience.
I love exploring playlists and podcasts but this can easily become a distraction. One example is the time I was listening to rock music whilst replying to some emails, and I wanted to shuffle my playlist. I switched to Spotify and a few minutes later I was browsing a classical playlist. You see? It is so easy to get lost since there are a lot of amazing curated playlists.
Thanks to the Miniplayer, I can now shuffle my queue or put a song on repeat without opening the main app. I can also quickly add or remove a song or episode from my library with just one click.
It’s awesome that I can shape my space according to my own rules. I really enjoy that the Miniplayer can transform its shape into a square, rectangle, or a sleek bar. You can adjust it to any size based on the current task.
I often use the Miniplayer in a small pill size. This gives me the basic controls while maintaining the minimum visual presence. I can then close the main Spotify window but still control my music and podcasts easily.
Earlier today I was reviewing my projects. The Miniplayer was quietly sitting at the bottom left corner of my screen. It takes the minimum screen real estate while giving me a visual glimpse of what is playing and ability to quickly pause or go to the next track.
Quick Tip: You can also click the Artist name, Song name, or the Album Art to open it in the main Spotify app.
The Miniplayer is only available for Premium users just now. To use the Miniplayer, look for this icon on your desktop app:
You can find it at the bottom right corner between the volume and the full screen buttons.

I hope you have the same handy experience with the Miniplayer as I did. Maybe you will discover even more useful things. Don’t forget to share them with the rest of the Community - feel free to drop your thoughts and feedback below.
after 30 days of waiting i am still yet to get the miniplayer in my desktop app it is in my chrome spotify and works perfectly but when i close the tab it closes aswell and i dont want to keep a tab open all the time just for a miniplayer when i could just use the app
i tried downloading the microsoft version and the one from spotify multiple times and other things like resetting appdata etc nothing worked
Still waiting for it too; it's in the web player but not yet in the app... Kind of frustrating!
Love it, being able to see what's playing and add a song to my library without switching windows is great.
I've updated... I'm on Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon)1.2.35.663.gb699649e... but I get no miniplayer icon. Am I the only one?
So the miniplayer finally showed up. Don't really know why. Just opened up Spotify and there it was.
Same, just logged in today and there it is... hope it works for everybody else also
Thanks cloyd12... it's there for me now, too. I'll take all the credit 😃
would like the option to scrub through songs w/in the miniplayer 🙏
It would be usable if you could attach it to the windows taskbar. Now I just move it around like a remote control on the dinner table while trying to set the table before dinner. It is in the way
I have Premium Duo and unfortunately I don't have the mini-player either. I've been dying for this feature. 😭 I updated my spotify, restarted it, restarted my computer just to make sure it wasn't that but nothing on my side yet. I'm on windows if it's of any help.
This is great news. But a few things to update:
On a Mac the app Silicio provides a really good mini player for Spotify. And it's FREE!

can we have it on our phones
M1 Mac, Premium Subscribed, Daily user, in the UK.
I finally got my miniplayer today. I think it would be better if they took care making these announcements if they are indeed 'roll outs' - there's a lot of unnecessary fuss, because people are just getting it a month later..
So, congrats to spotify, for bringing a feature from 1998 to 2024. Please consider adding a seek bar, like Winamp used to have in olden days.
M2 Macbook, Sonoma, I now have the mini player. Woo hoo.
It's just incredible how you've made the achievements of the century out of a trivial thing. Finally, the function of the mini player got to me. Firstly, when you click on the mini player, the main window does not collapse. that is, I have two players on the screen. Secondly, when you try to click on the red circle and close the player, a white hand appears. Great job!!!
I actually asked for this a couple years back and spotify support actually forwarded me to this post the minute it was out. Even though it took time, thanks for remembering me and making this. An excellent addition
It is not bad but can we add the same + option to choose which playlist to add option rather than just liked songs just like in the full size player?
