#MusicMonday is the hashtag I've been using for quite a while to share music recommendations from up-and-coming artists. Always fresh, and always different, trying to look for trends before they become one. You can check August's review for more music.
Come, and listen how dark themes give in to music in this issue. With war, nightmares, and disappointment, we also get a glimpse of hope, and fraternity. Check them out, with a word from the artists themselves. 🎧
Waterloo – A Cubierto

Primero fueron palabras
que amenazaban la paz
Despues fueron amenazas
para no comenzar
con una guerra cruel
donde todo ardera
cenizas sobre la piel
Dos mundos tan cerrados
y un conflicto tan abierto
Se ha desatado el infierno
asi que ponte a cubierto
We begin with a hard hitting Alt Metal track from Almería, Spain about the horrors of war, where flames surround bodies in the cold winter. Take cover:
"The instrumental was composed by Mario Fernández, the guitarist, who mixes abrasive tones with sounds he hears, from post-punk to flamenco. The lyrics are by Moisés, the lead singer. The war in Ukraine was very recent when we composed it, and we wanted to express ourselves."

Velourias – Taxidermist

It took my black soul
to build its nest
Hello I am the taxidermist
We continue in Dublin, Ireland for an Alt Rock track, full of raw intense energy, balanced by its cryptic surrealist lyrics:
"I didn't really know what I was writing about until it was recorded and I read the lyrics back. It was almost written subconsciously. It's dark humour social commentary."

Crooked Ties – Curtain Closer

Silence opens up the door
For all of those intrusive thoughts
There must be a place
That doesn’t look like your face
A polite decline would save us all some time
But you like to be pursued
So all the eyes must follow you
Around every room
We now travel to Worksop, England, for an Indie Rock track about meeting someone you know is out of your league, and not giving up. Try your best, even if it's not enough:
"Sonically we were wanting to make something that had a big dynamic change in it, we’d never really done anything mellow or subtle before so that’s where the start came in. But by the end we couldn’t help ourselves from going a bit mad.
Lyrically it’s fairly straightforward, it’s about a girl I met on a night out in Sheffield which is not the most inspiring or unique story but that’s where the inspiration came from."

Ritmo Lokura – Gente

Para ti luchador de vida
que trabaja pa su familia
pa tener frijolito en la casa
que nunca te digan que pasa
mi gente les hice esta canción
de todo corazón
para representar a la nación
todos los latinos
que somos la presión
lo que construimos
con esfuerzo y pasión
We now travel to Houston, TX. for a protest song in form of a Cumbia rhythm you can follow, and dance, step by step:
"At Ritmo Lokura, Gente was created as an anthem for the underdogs — the hardworking people who keep this country moving, often without recognition.
We come from humble beginnings, where resilience and creativity with limited resources are part of our DNA. This song was born out of a deep desire to give our community a voice — a powerful chant that celebrates the strength, pride, and culture of Latin people.
With Gente, we aim to uplift and inspire, honoring those whose everyday efforts form the backbone of society."

couchsports. – under my skin
I gave you all my colors
but you left me black and white
I tried to paint a future
but you washed it out with lies
From Manchester, England, our last track is an Alt Rock tour-de-force about being let down, and deciding to let go:
"I was in a very toxic and almost mentally abusive relationship which at the time I was blinded by. The song is all about getting rid of that burden and feeling the weight lifted."
