My Question or Issue
Cannot Turn Off Content with Strobe or Flashing/ Moving Images
Spotify has recently updated to allow clips of videos to autoplay as when I look at pages suchs as Release Radar and Discover Weekly on my mobile app. There seems to be no way to turn this off. This means that strobe, flashing lights and otherwise distracting and uncomfortable moving images are on my screen when I'm just trying to look at a playlist. Please tell me how this feature can be switched off? This is an access issue; for me it's just very uncomfortable, but for others could cause migraines, a seizure or nausea.
i'd really like to know as well. it looks like it's tine to leave this app.
Hi there folks,
Thanks so much for reaching out to the Community and welcome.
When you open certain playlists, like the ones @ZiggyLudo mentions, a tiny preview of the video comes up on top of the songs (Like in the pic attached bellow). Is that what you mean? Because that video or preview shouldn't actually play by itself and take over your whole screen. If that is the case, do you mind sending us a video recording of this behavior? You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.
Now, if it's just the tiny preview, like in the pic, It can't be disabled at the moment. However, we appreciate you taking the time to let us know how you feel about this feature. We always aim to improve, so we’ll get this passed on to the right team.
We'll be here in case you need us.
Why was my comment deleted? Why have t you fixed the issue. If you are a paid employee- you shouldn't be.
Hey! I am a musician who has seizures. Each time I try to search something, I have a video with a strobe in the "Discover something new" section. I can't seem to get rid of it.
Could you please give me tips on this topic? Since it is really bothering me.
Hey, @Nolanoiwhgw,
Thanks for joining the thread!
I'm afraid there isn't a direct way to stop these videos from auto-playing in the app itself, but something that may help here is turning off animations in your device's settings - what they're called may vary depending on the manufacturer, but in general look for "animation speed", "animation effects", "motion effects", etc.
We understand this isn't ideal, and we’re regularly testing and launching new features and improvements to the app. Your feedback on this is important, as it may ultimately end up paving the way for our broader user experience, so thanks for sharing it here - we appreciate it 💚.
