My Question or Issue

I have a family plan. To prevent my kids from stopping my music when I'm listening on my phone, I've got one of the six accounts set aside just for use on our Google home speakers. It works great. I have explicit music turned off for this account because it's mostly used by the kids.

When I ask it to play an album, say Midnights by Taylor Swift, the Google speaker plays the album but skips the explicit songs. This is good, but there's a version of the album with clean versions of each song. How do I get it to play the clean version of the album?

It's got the same name in Spotify, so it can be tricky to find on mobile. I have to search for one of the songs, find the version without an "E", and got to it's album. On desktop, it's simpler, the album has a "versions" menu or something as I recall.

It's easy on desktop, tricky on mobile, and hopefully not impossible on a smart speaker.

Hello @MusicFan65,

Thanks for reaching out via the Community and welcome to the forum!

It's great that you've set up a separate account for your kids to use with your Google Nest speaker.

We really appreciate you sharing your desire for such a feature, but for the time being, unfortunately there isn't a specific way on Spotify to allow you to prioritize playing clean versions of albums. However, there's currently a Live Idea here in which users would like to be able to see and play the original version of an album. You might like this suggestion and in order to show your support, you can add your vote.

As a workaround in the meantime, if you'd like to make sure that the Google Nest speaker would play only the clean version albums, you can copy the songs from these albums and create personal playlists with them on the linked Spotify account. You can give these playlists unique names, so that when prompted to, the speaker would play them with the clean versions of the tracks.

Hope this info helps and don't hesitate to let us know if there's anything else you need assistance with. Cheers 🙂

On Google Speaker, a clean album means a song that does not contain bad or vulgar language. Many songs contain abusive or rude words that are not appropriate to listen to in front of everyone, especially children. In the clean version, those bad words are cut out, so the song can be heard clearly. The fun does not decrease, the song is just as good as before. The best thing is that the family can sit together and listen to the song in peace. This clean song starts playing when you say it on Google Speaker. This is a very good thing for those who want to listen to music together at home or who are concerned about their children.
