Lately, I've noticed that the DJ is playing the same (or very similar) set of songs over and over again. Is anyone else experiencing this? I understand I can click on "get some different DJ picks" and move on, but I don't remember this happening in the past. At least, the songs didn't repeat this often. I'm curious if this is a bug or if it's intentional to rotate the same songs repeatedly.

Hi @imkaiko,
Thanks for posting here in the Community and welcome!
Have you already tried any troubleshooting steps? If not, then it's good to start by logging out and logging in twice in a row. This will resync your account and device. Additionally, could you check if this happens from a different device?
On another note, you can also try clearing the app's cache from settings. This can help improve the performance of the DJ. You can check the steps to do so here.
Let us know how that goes.

My Question or Issue
Typically, the Dj feature works pretty well for me, so I enjoy using it. Today, it just keeps repeating: “Up next, we’re visiting an artist you keep coming back to” and then will play a few songs by an artist I frequent. If I skip or try to “refresh” the vibe, it just does the same sentence with a different artist. Normally the vibes vary from each little set to the next and it will introduce them differently, but even after restarting and updating the app, it seems to be glitching out and just repeating itself over and over.
Thanks for the suggestion! Logging out and back in twice in a row seemed to do the trick on my desktop! DJ X got creative again and is playing stuff I like. However, clearing cache on my phone didn’t quite work. Instead of suggesting songs it thinks I like, it’s just playing favorite artists or songs I used to listen to, similar to the posts described below.
I'd like to note I'm having a similar issue which may have the same cause. I choose a suggested Spotify mix like Chill Mix, or Upbeat Mix or Country Mix, and then after a few songs, the app starts playing Ambient Sleep Music or Electronic Space music, which I do listen to sometimes before bed, but that's not when I'm choosing these other mixes. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.
Logging in and out every time we want DJ to play something new isn't really a resolution, it constantly plays through the same mix of recommendations for me. If I listen to DJ once in a day, I can't listen to it again (or I get an identical playlist). Listening on different devices too so it's not a device cache issue. This has been happening for over a year - surely you're working on a resolution?
If you let the DJ cook for too long without adding more "liked songs" and "followed artists" and such, it gets kind of high on its own farts. Stir the pot. Don't let it run too long without interacting or it starts going in circles because its designed to do what radio does. It will find your favorites and play them to death until you hate it as a reward for not interacting.
For me, it does a lot of the same repeating things-- your songs from 2023, and for some reason it loves 2010's for me. But, the really confusing part is the DJ keeps recommending some pop and country songs/artists that I never listen to. I've skipped one at least 10 times and the DJ just keeps bringing it back. Being a developer, I'd love to know what code is suggesting this and why skipping a song over and over (not to mention once), doesn't stop those tracks from coming back.
Of course, if it would play more songs that I haven't already liked that in a genre anywhere even close to what I might prefer, I'd like more songs but it's difficult with such poor results. So far this morning it's only played songs I've liked.
They did a good job with the voice though. I guess that's the AI part. The song selection is worse than Pandora 10 years ago.
I am fairly certain of this answer, but maybe just wanted to complain. Is there a way to block the DJ from playing the same awful tracks that I already skipped multiple times?
My guess is... no. I know this wasn't developer decision. What **bleep** exec thought this was a good idea?
i listen to new music often, that doesnt work.
YES!!! Been dealing with this for over a year, finally looked it up and found I'm not the only one. It literally picks one song from each artist and repeats it every time I play the DJ. This makes me tired of some of my favorite songs, AND it's missing out on playing so many amazing songs from the same albums! Desperately want DJ to get better at playing more variety, and not tiring out my fav tunes!
Yeah. Mine plays the same set of music literally on shuffle.
On my end, I don't believe that it's a bug, but more of a limitation... Every time I launch a session, his "selection" is almost always the same, in the same order... Suggested songs to like or to discover are always the same, to a point where it's not suggesting anything you, but almost begging me to add this "new song" to my LIKED list or one of my playlist. I can tell you for a FACT, the 4 first songs of a set, depending on the set he's launching... The magic is gone 😕
I believe it defeats the purpose of the DJ, to balance music that I know and love, with suggestions to make discover new artists, new releases or new genres, based on my initial preferences. If I want to listen a shuffled version of my liked songs, I'll do that!
**bleep**. So sick of hearing the same stuff over and over!!!
This happens with the DJ Feature, any radio station i choose, or an artist. it will play the same songs over and over no matter what artist radio i choose or play list i choose. I just cleared the Cache hoping it'll fix it.
The "AI" DJ is not good, it's a bit stupid, I currently have about 200 artists and the DJ only play the same 10 songs over and over again
I know this post is over a year old, it has taken me almost that long to find this community and search this very same issue. Regardless of device, signing in and out, standing on my head while whistling, DJ “X” need to be DJ ‘Next’ because the curation of songs for me are a repeat of the exact same songs every time I open my app and begin to listen to a stream of music. I do not know anything about how this AI guy is programmed to choose songs, but he needs a refresh and an update to matching songs to actual human being trying to get a certain sound or music during a specific time. For instance, I love to have music to hear when I am working out at gym. It can be a game changer, and elevate a good workout to a great workout. It can also be and is a major time waste and derailing of activity when I am literally hearing Bob Seager “ Holllywood Nights’ for the 4th go round. Or Tom Patty’s ‘ Maryjane’s last Dance, Refugee, Fee Falling” This AI guy has played AC/DC’s Back in Black” so many times and without exception every time I am working out, that what used to be the a sort of rush when hearing those firsts seconds of the song ( I can’t describe the sound and think it’s a drum?) anyway, talk about an iconic tune that because I played it or searched for it and added it to a playlist, it has almost been played to death. This “X’ also gets the artists name wrong sometimes, which, cmon Spotify, you are a music streaming giant, the programmer can’t get “Bette” to be “bet’ and not “ Bet-Ta’ Midler. Seriously , i bought maynebi was having a stoke or something, but he said the same thing again at a later time, and i wanted to throw scream at the “ guy” but he is not real after all. This specific name X has since corrected and does not say it wrong but there are other instances as well. I will “ask’ X not to play a certain artist, or repeat songs, and this X has the poorest recall and memory because if it doesn’t play the exact artist I did not want to hear, or go back to “ Hollywood Nights” every time I use the resource. It is so freaking frustrating to have this service, which has the digital warehouse of millions of songs and who is supposed to be your go to resource for songs that are in sync with the request made, activity involved in, mood, setting. I realize there are far more serious global and local issues in the world today, so let me say that now. I get it that this is a first world dilemma.
With that said, having the tool that Spotify gives you to curate what should be dynamic, expansive, and diverse song sets, for me, in the few years I have been only using Spotify, the selection I get back is are redundant, in no way represents or even begins to tap the vast amount of artists that are available to stream and instead, links back to the artists, band, musicians that has been played to death by X. The ironic part of this too is what you may choose once, becomes X’s go to,and because it is replayed a few times without skipping it bc you actually did like the song at one time, but it is included so much that X tells you it has been your “top artist for week of…” and instead of sourcing a relevant, similar in style and genre, the actual same song gets played and it is maddening . I can;t hear “Go your own way” by Fleetowod Mac anymore bc X decided I liked it and started every workout with this song or “ Let’s get the Party Started” by Pink. 2 songs and artists that I am a huge fan of but surely X can make a connection to other music and artists that will match up to the style and focus of music selection …nope, it is just repeat, rehash, and plugging in music that I would never listen too, have never listened to, and if I am on my 1st minutes of Treadmill misery, I do NOT want to have X tell me he wants to “change” it up a little ( bc I skipped 16 successive song choices X made, (all repeats of songs from last time) and suddenly I am at a pseudo Sarah Maclughlin (sp?)music like fest and I am actually talking to my phone like it’s a child that does not seem to be able to learn simple math. Can someone/anyone at Spotify skill up X, or transition X out of his global role, and put in place a DJ that utlizes what is the Spotify behemoth repository of music, artists, etc and give me and the others experiencing same/ similar challenges, a selection of music that is representative of the resource at hand and is truly matching the sound being requested by me or anyone and is not a poorly designed AI or programmed DJ that cannot retrieve or create a playlist that is anything but a reboot of what it plays and plays again, or defaults to music that in no way reflects my requests.
Yes, this is happening to me. It's like, 'hey, you listen to this song ten times this month, here it is again. And again. I have more the 400 Liked songs but yet I hear the same handful of tracks on DJ X all the time. It's tedious.
Thank goodness I've found this thread. Given that Spotify is about to hike prices again (to £21.99/month for Family) it's this kind of thing that gets my goat. The DJ feature has been there for ages so it can't blame "teething troubles" - it just isn't very good. That said, I have just cleared my cache and maybe, just maybe, this time it seems to be being a bit more creative in its choices. And yes - it always "takes me back" to the same 20 songs from 2021! Weird
